Korean Government to Develop Independent AI Foundation Models

The Korean government is initiating the development of independent AI foundation models by inviting domestic elite teams to participate. This project aims to achieve performance levels of 95% compared to the latest global AI models, with up to five teams selected. The effort will be supported with resources like GPU, data, and talent over a maximum period of three years. It also requires participation from university students to foster future talent. The models developed will be open-source and contribute to Korea's AI ecosystem, aiming to elevate the country's standing as an AI powerhouse.
