[Performance News] Musical 'Majesty' Opens Next Month; 'Myeonggawollyun' Dance in Graz

Creative musical 'Majesty' will begin preview performances on May 25 at NOL Theater in Seoul’s Daehangno. Set in 19th-century San Francisco, the story follows real-life eccentric Joshua Abraham Norton, who declared himself “Emperor of the United States” and “Protector of Mexico.” The production portrays Norton not merely as a eccentric but as someone who listens to society’s overlooked people, asking audiences to choose between truth and falsehood, hate and solidarity. Actors Um Ki-joon and Park Jae-yoon play Norton; Park Jung-won and Kim Woo-seok play reporter Arthur. The show was selected for a government-supported large musical pilot program and plans to expand after refining the work.
Also, the Seoul·Gyeonggi Dance Research Association will perform the traditional dance piece “Myeonggawollyun” at Helmut List Halle in Graz, Austria, on May 11 as part of the 2026 Graz Korean Culture Festival organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Austria. The piece honors master choreographer Jo Heung-dong (Wollyun) by depicting an artist’s life as the phases of the moon—new moon, half moon, and full moon—tracing a boy’s pure beginnings to the artist’s eventual enlightenment. K-pop programs will follow on May 12.
