Soprano Lee Haewon, tenor John Noh, and baritone Noh Hyunwoo team up for a rare concert of only Korean art songs at Seoul Arts Center on the 8th. Titled “The Most Beautiful Songs,” the program spans beloved classics like Hong Nan-pa’s “Springtime in My Hometown (Gohyang-ui Bom)” and Kim Kwang-su’s “Mom and Sister (Omma-ya Nuna-ya),” as well as modern interpretations such as Jeong Hwan-ho’s “The Day Flowers Bloom” and Kang Han-moe’s “When the Wind Blows.” The trio arranged the repertoire chronologically to show the evolution of Korean art song, emphasizing themes of longing for home and nature that often reflect Korea’s historical experiences like the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War. Lee—known for a viral art-song version of BTS’s “Spring Day”—and John, a popular crossover tenor from competition TV, say adding Noh Hyunwoo’s rich baritone deepens the ensemble’s sound. They hope the performance evokes personal memories and shared nostalgia among listeners.
