The Seollal (Lunar New Year) holiday in Korea offers up to nine days of vacation, making it an ideal time for exploration. For those without plans, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea Tourism Organization, have recommended the 'Top 100 Tourist Attractions in Korea'. This list, curated since 2012, highlights essential spots for both domestic and international tourists. Attractions range from cultural heritage sites and serene natural landscapes to experiential spots like the filming location for "Squid Game" and newly popular destinations.
For a classic experience, recurring selections include Seoul's royal palaces (5 Grand Palaces), Jeonju Hanok Village, Hallasan National Park and Jeju Olle Trail (famous hiking path on Jeju Island), and historic sites like Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto.
Winter visitors can enjoy the ski-friendly region of Daegwallyeong in Gangwon Province and other newly introduced spots like the accessible Balwangsan Cheonnyeon Yew Forest Trail. Special events during this period include a photography and travel story competition with prizes for participation.
