Im Sun-woo, a principal dancer with the Universal Ballet who first played Billy in Korea’s 2010 premiere, will return to the musical Billy Elliot as the adult Billy. Speaking at a press event in Seoul, Im said he dreamed of playing the adult Billy since his first participation 16 years ago and that the role helped him through a serious injury during which he recalled Billy’s resilience. The musical, based on the 2000 film, returns for its fourth Korean season after five years. Four young actors—Kim Seung-joo (13), Park Ji-hoo (12), Kim Woo-jin (11) and Jo Yoon-woo (10)—were cast as the new Billys after a year of multi-stage auditions and training at a “Billy School” (program where candidates learn ballet, tap, acrobatics and jazz). The production will rehearse extensively and runs at Blue Square in Yongsan, Seoul from April 12 to July 26.
