South Korea Designates Five New Space Technologies Including Intellian Satellite Antennas

South Korea’s Space Agency named five ‘new space technologies’ in satellites, launch vehicles and space observation — including Intellian Technologies’ mid- and low-Earth orbit satellite gateway and planar array antennas, a friction stir welding process for lighter, more reliable launch fuel tanks, high-performance multi-band TDI imaging sensors, and mid-infrared detector arrays. The designation (a government program to recognize novel, value-creating domestic or improved foreign technologies) will give selected firms support during product development and preferential treatment in public procurement — such as pilot purchases and permission for negotiated contracts — to help commercialize the technologies and reduce dependence on foreign components. The agency plans regular future selections and offers testing, evaluation support and promotion to help these innovations enter domestic and global markets, strengthening Korea’s private-led space ecosystem.
