KORAIL Tourism Development has secured the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s 4th family-friendly certification and the Ministry of Health and Welfare/Korea National Council on Social Welfare’s community contribution recognition for the seventh consecutive year. The family-friendly certification honors employers that operate exemplary policies supporting childbirth, childcare, and a family-friendly workplace; KORAIL first earned it in 2014 and has renewed it in 2019, 2022 and 2025. Recent usage rates show strong real-world uptake: 100% shortened working hours during pregnancy, 93.3% re-employment after parental leave, 97.5% use of reduced hours by women, 94.7% spouse paternity leave uptake, and 50.3% flexible work use. The company also added childbirth bonuses, childcare allowances, discounted access to company-owned and partner resorts, and employee clubs to support staff and families. The community contribution recognition rewards sustained social responsibility efforts; KORAIL was praised for systematic ESG (environmental, social, governance) practices, running 10 volunteer clubs with 276 members contributing 14,352 hours annually, sponsoring train trips for vulnerable groups, and adding ESG performance metrics to internal evaluations. Acting CEO Lee Woo-hyun said the awards reflect the company’s efforts to balance work, family, and social responsibility and pledged continued genuine partnership with local communities.
