The World Institute of Kimchi (WiKim), a government research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, held the 3rd WiKim Festival on Nov. 21 at the National Folk Museum to mark Kimchi Day (Nov. 22). The event, themed “The Future of K-Kimchi Created by Science and Culture,” drew about 200 on-site attendees and 263 online viewers via WiKimTV. Key sessions connected data, culture, and science: WiKim Director Jang Hae-chun spoke on Korea’s role in kimchi (김치) research; Song Gil-young presented big-data analysis of kimchi consumption; writer Jo Seung-yeon discussed cultural expansion of K-kimchi; and science communicator Lee Seon-ho (EXO) explained kimchi’s scientific health benefits. The festival also held the 4th Kimchi Content Creation Contest awards, showcasing winning videos and artworks in the lobby. Director Jang announced plans to recruit Global Kimchi Ambassadors to build an international kimchi network and promote the scientific and cultural value of kimchi worldwide.
