HiteJinro’s Sparkling Beer 'Filite' Surpasses 2.6 Billion Cans Sold

HiteJinro announced that its sparkling beer (발포주) brand Filite has surpassed 2.6 billion cumulative cans sold. According to Nielsen Korea, Filite is the top-selling brand in Korea’s sparkling beer market through September, outselling the second-place brand by 3.8 times. Sparkling beer is classified as a different liquor (발포주) because it contains less than 10% malt and is taxed at a lower rate (30%) than beer (72%), which keeps retail prices lower. HiteJinro said its April launch, Filite Clear, established itself successfully in the market; the company cut Filite Clear’s wholesale price by about 20% in September. A HiteJinro marketing executive said the brand aims to claim both the first and second spots in the sparkling beer market this year and will expand product offerings to strengthen its leadership.
