George Lucas’s Final Puzzle: Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to Open in LA in 2026

George Lucas and his wife Melody Hobson will open the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park on September 22, 2026. The museum—after failed attempts in Chicago and San Francisco—finds a home in a cultural hub near major museums and educational institutions. Designed by Chinese architect Ma Yansong (MAD Architects) with landscaping by Mia Lehrer (Studio-MLA), the futuristic yet nature-friendly building houses about 93,000 m² (10,000 square feet) of exhibition space across 35 galleries. The museum’s mission focuses on “narrative” as a universal language that connects people; its collection of roughly 40,000 works from the Lucas couple includes 20th–21st century murals, comic art, children’s book illustrations, and sci‑fi illustration, organized around themes like love, family, and adventure. Visitors will also see film posters, archives, and artist documentaries. LA—already home to over 800 museums and galleries—expects the new museum to complement Hollywood and draw global visitors.
