Korea’s Catering Firms Pivot Beyond B2B as 6 Trillion‑Won Market Stalls

Major Korean contract catering companies—Samsung Welstory, CJ Freshway, Hyundai Green Food and others—are expanding beyond traditional B2B meal services as the domestic group-meal market stalls around the 6 trillion won level. While 3Q results improved for top players, structural limits (population decline, remote/hybrid work, few new large workplaces) constrain long-term growth of onsite corporate, school and hospital catering. Firms are diversifying into private‑brand (PB) products, ready meals, subscription services, care food for seniors/patients, online retail, and overseas airline catering. Examples: CJ repackaged its PB “Itswell” and grew online sales—children’s brand “Ainuri” juices rose 223% YoY—while Ourhome’s online mall revenue jumped 66% with faster delivery options. Ourhome also supplies up to 15,000 airline meals daily from its U.S. unit, and Hyundai Green Food’s care‑food brand “Greeting” sells hundreds of health‑focused ready meals via subscription. Analysts say this shift responds to long‑term trends—aging society, demand for healthier food, and online purchasing—pushing catering firms to become broader food‑tech and lifestyle players.
