A commemorative concert honoring the 100th anniversary of Seokju Lee Sang-ryong’s (이상룡) appointment as the first State Councilor of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea will be held on the 22nd at Imcheonggak in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province. Organized by Andong City and the memorial association with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs presiding, the event will feature participants from various sectors including Minister Kwon Oh-eul. Lee (1858–1932) was a central figure in Korea’s independence movement: he founded the Sinheung Military Academy and helped establish the Provisional Government, and he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1962. Imcheonggak (임청각), a designated Treasure No. 182, is his birthplace and a historic center of anti-Japanese resistance; parts of the site were damaged during the Japanese colonial era when the colonial government built a railway through the estate, and restoration work has been underway since 2020.
