Fermented skate (a traditional dish from Jeolla province) and seaweed soup (commonly eaten on birthdays and postpartum for nutritional benefits) from Korea may soon be recognized as 'Traditional Fishery Products' and made available for international export. The National Fishery Products Quality Management Service has found fermented skate suitable for this designation. Efforts are also underway to standardize guidelines for seaweed soup. Once designated, these foods gain government support for export and global marketing, enhancing Korea's seafood brand 'K-FISH.' The goal is to improve recognition and expand markets for traditional Korean seafood products overseas. Currently, 44 food items like squid, pollock roe, and seasoned seaweed are already designated traditional fishery products.
