Two vocal ensembles will perform at Yeongsan Art Hall, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul: the Ainos Choir holds its 60th regular concert on the 10th. Founded in 1996 by conductor Lee Seon-woo, Ainos (ancient Greek for “praise”) is a sacred-music choir made up of classically trained Christian vocalists; they have given about 540 performances and released 49 CDs and 4 USB albums. Their program features Handel’s popular coronation anthem “Zadok the Priest,” with soprano Hyun Young-ae and pianist Yeom Jeong-eun, Yun Kyung-ju and Hwang Na-rae joining the Ainos Chamber Orchestra. On the 12th, the Italy Vocal Society celebrates its 75th regular concert. Established in 1982, the group—composed of singers trained in Italy and abroad—promotes authentic Italian operatic technique in Korea under president Oh Dong-guk (Anyang University). Twenty members perform arias from Italian operas such as Don Pasquale, Un Ballo in Maschera (mask ball), Tosca, Rigoletto and Andrea Chénier under the subtitle “Opera Virtuosi” (plural of virtuoso).
