The 'Exile Diary' of former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung covering the period from August 3, 1972, to May 11, 1973, has been published. This diary was unknown until recently discovered among his belongings. It contains 223 entries recorded while he was in exile in the U.S. and Japan during the oppressive Yushin regime (an authoritarian rule under President Park Chung-hee). Kim writes with deep emotion about the struggle for democracy in his homeland and his sense of helplessness while in exile.
