Amid the ongoing economic downturn, traditionally popular beauty services like nail art, hair, and makeup have seen a decline in demand in South Korea. Many beauty salons are struggling to stay afloat, competing with the rising trend of DIY (Do-It-Yourself) beauty solutions. With more affordable self-service kits available, such as nail stickers or press-on nails, consumers, especially in their 20s and 30s, are opting for cost-saving alternatives they can do at home. This shift has led to increased closures of beauty salons across the country, with more than 5,300 salons shutting down this year alone as of September. The e-commerce industry is responding by providing a wider variety of DIY beauty products to meet consumer needs.
