Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is expanding its global presence by launching new hotels in Malaysia and Italy. In Malaysia, the existing resort at Desaru Coast is being rebranded as the 'Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast,' set to open in January 2026. Known for its beautiful natural setting and mild climate, Desaru Coast is often called the 'hidden gem of the South China Sea.' The resort will feature 44 suites and villa-style rooms with ocean or rainforest views, each with private gardens and pools. Additionally, the hotel will have restaurants, bars, and access to the renowned Els Club Desaru Coast golf course. In Italy, the group is taking over the management of the San Clemente Palace in Venice, reopening it as 'Mandarin Oriental Venice' in April next year. The hotel is located on San Clemente Island, a short boat ride from St. Mark's Square, and features 136 rooms with views of the Venetian Lagoon. Designed by Albion Nord of London, the hotel combines historical architecture with modern design. The island itself hosts a 900-year-old monastery, gardens, and a 12th-century church.
