At Sejong Center’s Sejong S Theater, veteran musician Kim Chang-wan and his band delivered a heartfelt performance as part of the ‘SyncNext 26’ series, reminding audiences of the enduring roots of Korean popular music beyond idol-centered K-pop. Opening with “내 마음에 주단을 깔고,” Kim performed classics like “너의 의미,” “청춘,” and “어머니와 고등어,” plus his new song “SEVENTY.” The crowd—largely in their 50s and 60s—sang along, teared up during emotional moments, and erupted into enthusiastic chants and heart signs. Young guest artist Jin Choi (a 2008-born singer-songwriter and K-pop producer) praised Kim as a foundational influence on K-pop. The concert blended nostalgia and present-day relevance, highlighting Korea’s musical heritage and the deep, cross-generational connection between artist and audience.
