Pianist Noh Hyunjin (24) has won first prize at the 13th Paderewski International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, Poland, also taking three special awards and a total prize of €33,000 (about ₩55.85 million). The Paderewski competition, established in 1961 to honor Polish pianist-composer Ignacy Jan Paderewski, is held every three years for performers aged 18–32. In the final, Noh performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor” with the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra, securing the top spot; Italy’s Cechino Elia placed second and China’s Lin Finhong third. Noh debuted in 2014 through the Kumho Young Artists Concerts and studied at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and Seoul National University; he is currently at the New England Conservatory. Fellow Korean pianist Kim Ji-young finished fourth. (Paderewski: Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Polish pianist and composer)
