The Japanese cruise ship Mitsui Ocean Fuji (MITSUI OCEAN FUJI) docked at Yeosu Port, marking the last cruise call of the year. The 32,000-ton vessel carried about 700 people — roughly 400 passengers and 300 crew — who visited the Yeosu Expo site and nearby attractions. Yeosu Port saw two more cruise calls this year compared with last year, helping local businesses as foreign tourists visit key sites like the Expo grounds and Yi Sun-sin Plaza (a public square named after the famed Korean admiral). The Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) credited branding, diversified tour products, and active marketing such as port sales and ship-invited familiarization tours for boosting the port’s profile as an international cruise stop. YGPA plans to continue cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeollanam-do province, and Yeosu city to promote marine tourism, regional cuisine (namdo misik), and historical-cultural attractions. Sixteen cruise calls are planned next year, starting in February.
