Gangneung to Busan Railway to Open in 2022
and vice versa in one line. GANGNEUNG TO BUSAN RAILWAY TO OPEN IN 2022 The Gangneung to Busan Railway which is scheduled to open in 2022, is expected to connect the existing Gangneung to Donghae Line and the Busan to Pohang Line (Shown as the blue lines below) with a 179km long new coastal railway (Shown as the red line below). This is a huge ambition of the Ministry of Transport coming to life. With this, it will be able to travel from Gangneung to Busan. The current fastest way to travel from Gangneung to Busan is to take the KTX from Gangneung to Seoul then take another KTX from Seoul to Busan or to take the Bus for nearly 8 hours. In order to relieve these transportation issues, the Ministry of Transport of South Korea announced it will be connecting the original Gangneung Donghae Line as well as the Busan Gyeongbu Line with an estimated cost of around 488.5 Billion Won. People might think that if they are connecting existing lines it will still be slow as they are going to use the existing slow trains on each of the lines but this is not the case as the plan includes using KTX trains for the railroad. The original Gangneung to Donghae station will be completed by the end of this year. After this ambitious plan of a railroad from Gangneung to Busan is completed by 2022, the Ministry of Transport also plans for a Gangneung to Dongdaegu line. Although it may not be happening right away, 2022 is close and coming. Imagine taking the KTX all the way to Busan from Gangneung enjoying the coastal scenery it offers. Doesn't it sound great? Busan Bus Free WiFi
Don't worry though! The City of Busan will be implementing free WiFi available for everyone on their buses starting from the 26th of August that doesn't need an account to be connected. This makes traveling in Busan much more convenient. BUSAN BUS FREE WIFI The Busan government announced that it will provide a free WiFi service on 2517 buses in Busan so that their citizens and passengers of the bus can experience greater convenience when using public transportation. The mayor of Busan was a strong supporter of this idea and with it being implemented it is really convenient to use as the WiFi doesn't require any restrictions such as a specific password or account to be connected to. When you take the bus in Busan and open WiFi you will be able to see the two free WiFi options shown below: * PublicWifi@BUS_Free_(Bus Number) * PublicWifi@BUS_Secure All passengers on the bus can connect to the Free WiFi, but in my personal experience I find it that sometimes it is unstable. Usually in order to connect to the free secure WiFi you would need to be a Korean citizen but the Free WiFi I believe should be enough for basic tasks on the bus. There are also posts posted about the directions to connect to the Free Secure WiFi by various steps including skipping the certification on your phone. We will provide the steps in more detail as time comes. Although Busan buses now provide free wifi, I recommend you still get your own SIM Card as you can use it anywhere you want and not only in the bus making it more convenient for you to check maps and do other tasks while you are traveling around Busan and Korea.
