Our Visit

Today, I had a chance to dine at ELPIC, a famous steakhouse in Cheongdam. ELPIC is known for its exceptional wood-grilled steaks and even featured in the Michelin Guide Seoul 2024!

As soon as I walked in, the Michelin Guide 2024 mark caught my eye. Right next to it, I also spotted the Blue Ribbon Survey certification, which is another trusted food guide in Korea.

ELPIC has a sleek, modern interior with a bar table offering a view of the open kitchen, and private rooms for a more intimate dining experience. The private rooms come with tables for 4 or 6 people which is perfect for group gatherings. There is also a coat rack on the side to hang your outerwear.

Near the entrance, there's a wine fridge showcasing a variety of wines. They offer a great selection of wines that pair perfectly with the steaks.

The steaks here are aged for over 150 days. You can actually see the aging process in their fridge, with steaks aged using beef fat, dry aging, wet aging, and wax aging.

These steaks are aged for over 100 days with beef fat and butter, they're a must-try if available. Be sure to check on-site for availability!

I've visited with my friend and we were seated at the bar table with a view of the open kitchen. It is exciting to watch how the food is prepared!

The drink menu includes wines, champagne, and other beverages that pair well with ELPIC's menu. Please keep in mind that the menu items and prices are subject to change.

I ordered the special dry-aged Korean T-bone steak (about 750g), Jeju fish ceviche, potato mille-feuille fries with truffle, and shrimp bisque pasta. I also showed the reservation page from Creatrip to receive the mashed potato benefit.

Steaks are aged in small quantities, so the desired type and weight might not always be available!

At ELPIC, steaks are carefully cooked on a wood grill over charcoal, taking about 30-40 minutes. So it is recommended to order your steak first before other dishes!

They began grilling the T-bone steak by separating the sirloin, ribeye, and bone portions. While grilling, they spread the marrow from the T-bone over the meat to enhance its flavor. The steak is cooked over high heat and repeatedly rested to achieve the perfect doneness.

If the meat shows a gray band, it means the juices are leaking and it loses flavor. ELPIC grills the steak to perfection without this gray band. While the steak is cooked in multiple rounds, other dishes are being prepared.

I watched the chef make mashed potatoes right in front of my table. The process involved melting and mixing high-fat butter and cream to create the perfect mashed potatoes.

Mashed Potatoes

The mashed potatoes looked perfectly creamy and delicious! They're a perfect side for the steak!

I was told that the vegetables for the ceviche are harvested directly from the mountains. ELPIC mainly uses wild plants from Jeju Island, including seasonal Korean herbs, which might be unfamiliar but offer a unique opportunity to experience local ingredients.

Jeju Fish Ceviche

The Jeju fish ceviche is made with fish caught off Jeju Island, and the fish used in the dish is always seasonal. It includes pickled red onions, pickled seaweed, and various types of radishes that change with the season.

Shrimp Bisque Pasta

The pasta is topped with plenty of Korean shrimp and features a rich bisque sauce made from shrimp heads and shells. For an extra ocean flavor, you can add sea urchin from Udo, Jeju Island (keep in mind you need to pay an extra for it).

Potato Mille-Feuille Fries with Truffle

The potato mille-feuille, made from thinly sliced and fried potatoes, pairs perfectly with the truffle hollandaise sauce. Fresh truffle, which changes with the season, is added on top. Since I've visited during summer, I got to enjoy it with black winter truffle.

I started my meal with the Jeju fish ceviche before the steak arrived. The dish had a delightful mix of Spanish and South American flavors. The ingredients from Jeju Island were fresh, and the tangy, citrusy sauce and herbs made it a perfect appetizer.

The shrimp bisque pasta that had an incredibly rich shellfish aroma. The chewy fresh noodles paired perfectly with the rich, non-fishy bisque sauce full of ocean flavor. If you're looking for a dish to complement your steak at ELPIC, I highly recommend it!

The potato mille-feuille had layers of thinly sliced potatoes and a creamy sauce, offering a mix of textures. The fresh truffle on top also added a subtle flavor.

Special Dry-Aged Korean T-Bone Steak (about 750g)

The long-awaited T-bone steak finally arrived! This is ELPIC's signature dish. It's made from young cows under 36 months old, making it especially tender with a mild, balanced flavor.

The steak was sprinkled with Maldon salt for added texture. The T-bone steak includes both tenderloin and sirloin sections. It is served with wasabi and whole grain mustard to balance the richness of the meat.

At ELPIC, steaks are typically cooked to a medium-rare. Though the meat may appear red and look rare, it's actually perfectly cooked. But if the medium rare is not to your liking, they will cook it further upon request, so no worries!

It's recommended to eat the tenderloin first, as the sirloin might make the tenderloin taste bland in comparison. The aging process definitely made the meat incredibly tender and maximized its juiciness!

Next, I cut the sirloin into bite-sized pieces. With the first bite, I experienced the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. Despite its thickness, the meat was not tough at all and had a strong, delicious flavor.

A delicious steak is never complete without wine! They usually offer two types of white wine and two types of red wine. The selection also changes by season!

The mashed potatoes, perfect with the steak, are rich in buttery flavor. They have a creamy texture that melts in your mouth and a deep, satisfying aroma.

From the simple ceviche to the richly flavored steak, the entire meal was incredibly satisfying. If you're looking for a stylish restaurant in Seoul to celebrate a special occasion, I highly recommend Cheongdam's ELPIC for its unique grilling method and exceptional steak!
