Every May and June, many will flock to Ganghwado to visit Dore Dore (도레도레). Although there are many Dore Dore cafes all throughout Seoul, this one is particularly popular because it is located in a beautiful daisy garden. We also wanted to see what all the hype was about and check out this unique Dore Dore cafe!
Our Visit
We headed out to Dore Dore on a weekend, and was greeted with a crowd of people. Although we were fortunate to grab a spot quickly, this place does get packed on the weekends and we suggest you plan accordingly!
When you arrive, it is easy to feel overwhelmed since it is so big! However, the nature was really calming. It feels much more like a botanical garden rather than a cafe. Right at the entrance, there is a path lined with daisies.
Dore Dore is split into two cafes. At the end of the pathway lined with flowers, the first cafe is on the left. There are many outdoor tables so you can enjoy the nice breeze and sunshine.
However, there aren't many daisies at the first cafe so we kept walking to the second cafe. On the trail to the second cafe, there were lots of trees and a fountain.
When you walk in a bit more you will reach a spot that will make you say "WOW!" This beautiful daisy garden. It was especially more gorgeous with the sunlight hitting them just right. We have to say, this was by far the best area of the whole cafe.
Something to note, children under 13 are prohibited from the flower gardens. If you are traveling with kids, they will need to stay inside the cafe.
On a clear and sunny day, you can take photos from a million different angles! We love daisies so coming here was definitely worth the drive.
Since it is super busy on the weekends, some of the popular photo spots may have long lines. But the photos do turn out nicely don't they?
Once you feel like you've taken enough photos, you can head inside to order. There is indoor and outdoor seating, on nice days outdoor seating is hard to find. So we ended up sitting inside. The interior seating area is spacious with simple wooden tables.
There is also a second floor for seating. We opted to sit at a table on the second floor since it seemed quieter. You can find the cafe menu at the counter where you order.
There were so many desserts to choose from. All the cakes looked delicious but we knew we couldn't try them all.
After taking some time to ponder we were finally able to decide. Since we went in a group of four, we ordered four drinks and two cakes to share.
Pictured above is a slice of strawberry cream cake (딸기생크림케이크). The drinks above are a Jeju tangerine juice (제주감귤주스), and a Jeju green tangerine ade (제주풋귤에이드).
We have to admit the prices of the cakes here run on the more expensive side. The Strawberry Cream Cake was 9,500 KRW! However, it was delicious. The cream was soft and the strawberries added a nice freshness.
Also, we were happy to have received a large slice.
We also got the Jeju tangerine Juice (6,500 KRW) and the Jeju Green Tangerine Ade (6,500 KRW). Both were really refreshing and just the right amount of sour and sweet! was very refreshing. Not sour at all. On a hot summer drink, it is the perfect drink to quench your thirst.
Pictured above is a slice of rainbow cream cake (무지개생크림케이크), an iced americano (아메리카노), and a strawberry latte (딸기 라떼).
We also couldn't resist the eye-catching rainbow cream cake (9,500 KRW)! We loved the colors and found them very pretty. The cream was not too sweet, and the cake was spongy. This cake was the same size as the strawberry cream cake. If you don't like fruity cakes, then we recommend this one. It is one of Dore Dore's signature cakes!
In our opinion, nothing pairs with cake better than an Iced Americano (6,000 KRW)! We found the americanos here a bit pricy but considering the ambiance, we expected the prices to be more expensive. The strawberry latte (6,000 KRW) consisted of strawberry syrup and milk. It is another drink you stir before enjoying. We expected the strawberries to add a bit of tartness but that wasn't the case. The drink was sweet.
After finishing our drinks and cakes, we decided to take a walk around. Since the space is large, there is plenty to explore!
There is even a map you can refer to if you get lost.
There is a wildflower garden (야생정원) you can check out. We loved that there were so many great photo ops along the path to get there.
While walking along this path we saw that there was a building under construction. This further proves our point that this is a popular place.
Since it can get so crowded, they are expanding with another cafe building.
There were even more daisies at the wildflower garden (야생정원). The daisies here grow naturally, so they are less staged than the areas mentioned before. We felt the gardens near the cafe were better for photos since they were planted in a prettier manner.
But this area was lovely to take in the natural beauty of these daisies.
Note, if you drive here and order from the cafe, save the receipt for free parking.
If you do not show a receipt, there is a 5,000 won parking fee.
