Baskin Robbins Samcheong Madang Branch | Cafe In Bukchon Hanok Village
A very unique Baskin Robbins branch with a traditional Korean atmosphere and exclusive menu items! A great way to relax in the middle of Bukchon Hanok Village with unique ice cream desserts.
Baskin Robbins in Korea is one of the most well-known go-to ice cream brands in Korea.
From new featured flavours that are introduced monthly to high-end Baskin Robbins Brown branches, it never ceases to amaze local customers.
Bukchon Hanok Village, located close to the Gyeongbokgung Palace, is one of the most prominent hanok (traditional Korean architecture) villages in Seoul.
So when Baskin Robbins opened up its first-ever hanok branch in the nation with exclusive menu items in late 2020, customers flocked to the place and long lines were formed every day!
We went over to see what the hype at Baskin Robbins Samcheong Madang branch is about.
Our Visit
Within a 20-minute walk from Anguk Station, we were able to spot Baskin Robbins Samcheong Madang branch amidst the hanok buildings in the narrow alley.
When you step in, you'll find their menu on the right hand side.
Right in front of you, you'll find two self-order kiosks that you can use for paying with a credit card.
If you're not keen on using the machine and would like to order in person, go all the way down the long counter and you'll find the check-out counter.
Upon payment, you'll receive a vibrating bell to let you know when your order is ready.
In the middle of the counter, we saw two traditional iron pots that were used in Korean households in the olden days.
Not sure what their function was, but we thought their presence was interesting!
The inside of the store isn't super big with tables that will seat about 10 people, but the neutral tones with warm wooden touches give the space a calm atmosphere.
The branch is called Samseong Madang, the word 'madang · 마당' in Korean meaning 'courtyard'.
At the courtyard (or madang we should say), we saw wooden benches elevated at different heights with a stone deck, which would make the perfect spot to enjoy your ice cream under the sun.
In the other corner tucked under the hanok roof, you'll find another long wooden bench which could seat about 5-6 people.
Within 5 minutes, our order was served!
Iced Americano (아이스 아메리카노)
3,000 KRW
Wawa Tteok (와와떡)
6,100 KRW
The coffee is available in two blends and we went with Scarlett Lion, which was a less chocolaty option!
Overall, it was aromatic and pretty good for coffee its price.
Wawa Tteok was something we saw online many times and was recommended by many Korean YouTubers!
When you order it, you'll be given a tiny glove for two fingers so when you rip the waffle into pieces, the food won't get on your fingers.
Start ripping the waffle into bite-size pieces.
Inside the thin, crispy layer of the waffle, you'll find chewy tteok (떡), or Korean rice cake!
Take a bite of the waffle piece with ice cream on top.
The combination of the flavours as well as the cripsy waffle texture complemented by the cloudy ice cream are just heavenly!
Oh and before you leave, see if this friendly cat is around.
The staff at Baskin Robbins feeds it occasionally so it comes by quite often!
