Hongdae「Myth Jokbal」Food Diary
Hongdae's Hottest Pork Trotters Restaurant and its popular Garlic Pork Trotters
Hello everyone! We're Creatrip, your Korean travel experts.
「Myth Jokbal」has to be the most popular, highly recommended pork trotters restaurant in downtown Hongdae.
But is it really the best pork trotters spot in Korea? Does the number of praises and reviews do it justice?
Well, I took a bite, it was delicious. However, I don't know if I can say that it has the best jokbal in Korea.
Why is that? Read below to find out!

Hongdae Myth Jokbal (미쓰족발)ㅣHow to Get There
From exit 8 or exit 9 of Hongik University station, walk to the biggest food street in the area and you'll see Myth Jokbal there. Because of its remarkable popularity, Myth Jokbal opened a second location right beside its main location in Hongdae.
The second location is pretty much the same as the main location. If the restaurant is busy, then you'll have to wait by taking a standby number from the machine until a table opens up. When I went, there was a table available so I got a table right away.
If you go in a group of 2-5, then you usually can be seated right when a table opens up. But if you go in a bigger group, you might have to wait longer until enough tables clear out to accommodate the number of people.
I ordered a medium size garlic jokbal (₩37,000) and the table was set up with free side dishes including salad, noodle and soup.
The soup tasted like ordinary kimchi soup, not too spicy. If the soup is cooked for longer, the flavours will become more concentrated and savoury.
Cook and adjust it to however you like it.
When the jokbal was served, I was very surprised. We ordered the smallest size (medium) and it was more than enough for the two of us. When I saw the layer of garlic on top, my mouth started watering and I jumped right into it.
I took my first bite, the spiciness of the garlic was non-existent and I could only taste the distinct flavour of garlic and the sweetness of the sauce. The initial taste was sweet and then the salty savoury flavour of pork trotters kicked in after.
Try the pork trotters dipped in different sauces too!
If the pork trotters and the side dishes aren't enough, try the tuna rice balls. It's served with plastic gloves for you to mix and shape them to your style.
The pork trotters have unique flavours loved by many and I think the layer of garlic on top makes it a specialty but I personally think the place is a bit overrated.
The pork trotters are yummy but after a bit your stomach could feel a little greasy. The smallest size might be too big for two people. Taking the noodle and rice dishes into consideration as well, it would be suitable for three people on average.
I just said the portions were too big but the two of us almost finished everything, haha. Based on my experiences of the popular places in Korea I've tried, I could kind of see why this place is so popular.
That brings us to the end of my food diary at Myth Jokbal. Although it didn't meet my expectations (maybe my expectations were too high), but as someone who doesn't like eating pork trotters I can say that the first three bites were really yummy.
