Our Visit
There is a cute tiger drawn in the entrance. This is the mascot of Insadong Garlic Bossam
If you go inside you will feel the atmosphere of a Hanok (Korean Traditional House). The hall is set up with a table and chair.
There is also a room for groups where you have to take your seat off and sit down on the floor to eat.
We ordered the Set Meal for 3 People.
*Garlic Bossam (Medium) + Kimchi Jjim (Small) + Pot Makgeolli
These are the side dishes that come out right away. (Starting from the right Onion pickles, Stir-fried Kimchi, and Stir-fried Seaweed Stems)
After the side dishes, the Makgeolli comes out! Makgeolli is a fermented traditional Korean alcohol drink using ingredients such as (Rice, Barley, and Flour). Insadong Garlic Bossam provides you with Makgeolli they personally made in the store. You can choose between Chestnut or Nurungji Makgeolli.
We ordered the Chestnut Makgeolli. You can drink it using the Makgeolli-specific glass. To explain the taste of Chestnut Makgeolli, you can think about it as a carbonated chestnut flavor which is different from normal alcohol.
As you drink the Makgeolli, the garlic bossam will come out.
The sliced radish and garlic sauce that comes out together with the garlic bossam is a great combination together. The special characteristic of this sauce is that the garlic is mixed with citron. You may think the spicy taste of the garlic and the refreshing taste of citron may not go well together but if you come here and actually eat it you will not think about that again.
The garlic sauce is not spicy so you can dip the bossam in a lot of the sauce as well. Just writing about it makes me want to eat it again.
If you don't want to dip it in the sauce every time you can just pour the sauce onto the Bossam! You can eat it depending on your preference
The next is Kimchi Jjim. It is a dish that almost all Koreans like with a whole boiled pork and nicely fermented kimchi inside the dish.
You can eat the kimchi and meat but cutting into nice pieces to eat in one bite. The meat is boiled so that it is really tender to eat.
Insadong Garlic Bossam is the perfect restaurant to come to regardless of who you come with such as your loved on, friend, family or anyone. The price itself is not that expensive given that you receive bossam, kimchi jjim, and makgeolli. The taste isn't that strong either so if it is your first time trying Korean food this is a good place to get a kick start!
We strongly recommend you come to Insadong Garlic Bossam if you are ever in the area. Present your coupon and get 10% off too!
