Recreating K-pop Idol Recipes | Chenle, Chanyeol & BTS
From the famous NCT Chenle ramyeon and EXO Chanyeol's tteokbokki to BTS x Baek Jong-won's ham recipes, we recreated the most requested recipes in our kitchen!
Not only do we love our idols on stage, but we also love it when they share little bits of their daily life, especially what they cook and eat!
K-pop idols often share their secrets in the kitchen on TV shows and social media.
We asked our followers on Instagram what idol recipes they would like to see us recreate and the ones that had the most number of votes were: BTS & Baek Jong-won's ham recipes, NCT Chenle's ramyeon and EXO Chanyeol's tteokbokki.
Soondingi Ramyeon
순딩이라면
by BTS & Baek Jong-won
BTS and Baek Jong-won partnered up on episode 125 of Run BTS! 2021 to promote 빽햄, a local ham made of pork hind legs which usually end up left over at pork farms.
In total, they made 5 recipes using the ham including fried rice, gamja jjageuli (감자짜글이) which is stew made with potatoes and lots of other ingredients and soondingi ramyeon (순딩이 라면), a simple yet delicious instant noodles.
The other two recipes are easy recipes that only require cooking the ham in a pan and air fryer.
For this blog, we decided to go with soondingi ramyeon because we already had a lot of the ingredients at home.
Right after the episode aired, it was a struggle getting the ham as it would instantly get sold out each time it was restocked.
A couple of months have passed and we finally got our hands of the ham so let's get cooking!
Ingredients
Baek Ham (1/5 can · 40g)
1 Ramyeon (Mild Flavour)
2 Vienna Sausages (30g)
1 Egg (60g)
Green Onions (1/3 cup · 30g)
Cooking Oil (1/2 cup · 80ml)
Water (3 cups · 540ml)
Directions
1. Slice the ham 0.7cm thick.
2. Make small cuts on the sausages front and back.
3. Slice green onions.
4. Put a generous amount of cooking oil on the pan and fry the ham and sausages until they are nice and brown.
We put 80ml of cooking oil in as the original instructions said but felt that it might have been too much.
Just put a good enough amount that will fry the ham and sausages to a nice crispy texture on the outside.
5. On the same pan, fry the egg.
6. Put water, soup base and flakes into the pot and bring it to a boil. When it starts boiling, put the ham and sausages in.
According to Baek Jong-won, the ham and sausages go in to give the soup a nice meaty flavour.
7. When it comes to a boil again, put the noodle in.
8. When the noodle gets loose, put the green onions in and bring it to a boil.
9. Put the finished product into a bowl and finish it off with the fried egg.
How Did It Taste?
Simply put, it was amazing!
All the flavours the ramyeon dish packed in such a simple recipe went really well together.
This would be a great recipe to cook for friends or family members when they come over because it's easy yet presentable.
Chenle Ramyeon
천러라면
by NCT Chenle
This is a ramyeon recipe that has been recreated by K-pop fans many many times.
Plus, it was the most requested on our Instagram, so we knew we had to make this one!
There were a couple of different versions of Chenle's ramyeon recipes floating around the Internet and we decided to follow the one from an episode of CHENJI's This And That.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to find the exact brand of ramyeon (KangShiFu Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian) at the Emart in Seoul, so we had to go with easy-to-find Jin Ramen.
But we hear it's most ideal if you can find the exact brand.
Ingredients
Laoganma Sauce
KangShiFu Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian
1 Tomato
1 Egg
Directions
1. Cut the tomatoes into small pieces.
2. When the tomatoes are softened, smash them and make it into a soup-like texture!
3. Put a spoonful of Laoganma sauce into the boiling soup.
You can put more or less of the sauce according to your liking.
4. Put the ramyeon soup base and the ramyeon noodles and cook according to the direction on the package.
5. Cook eggs according to your liking. Chenle likes to beat one egg and cook it in the boiling soup.
How Did It Taste?
This is the ultimate easy-to-make comfort food!
The savoury, spicy kick from Laoganma sauce complemented the flavours of tomatoes really well.
I think it would be great lunch or even a hangover cure for weekends when you don't feel like cooking up super complicated recipes but still want something that tastes awesome.
Chanyeol Tteokbokki
찬열 떡볶이
by EXO Chanyeol
Koreans love thier tteokbokki (spicy rice cake). It's a classic snack/food that we've had since childhood.
Many restaurants and families have their own recipes and it's pretty easy to make.
This tteokbokki recipe went viral when Chanyeol shared it on his Instagram in 2015!
It's been almost 6 years since and people are still enjoying this recipe.
He even made this recipe on TV in 2019 on Life Bar.
Ingredients
Sugar
Gochujang (Red Pepper Paste)
Soy Sauce
Red Pepper Flakes
Rice Cake
Fish Cake
Minced Garlic
Boiled Eggs
Green Onions
Directions
1. Pour 2 cups of water and a good amount of rice cake (washed) into the pan, add 3 spoons of sugar and bring it to a boil.
2. When it starts boiling, put 1 big spoon of gochujang and stir it in well.
3. Put 2.5 spoons of soy sauce and 1.5 spoons of red pepper flakes.
Optional. His original recipe doesn't mention minced garlic, but the one on Life Bar puts about 1.5 spoons of minced garlic.
4. Boil it down and stir often so the rice cake doesn't stick to the pan.
Tips. According to Chanyeol, boiled eggs, fish cakes and green onions can be added when you know it's time!
How Did It Taste?
We grew up eating tteokbokki on a weekly (if not daily) and we can say with confidence that this tteokbokki was very delectable!
It's got the classic homemade flavour that's spicy and sweet while the rice cake pieces are soft and chewy.
If you're looking for an easy homemade tteokbokki recipe or want to get started with cooking Korean food, this one is highly recommended!
