It's Okay, That's Love | Stunning Filming Locations You Should Visit In Person
Jo In-Sung and Kang Hyo-Jin's drama is still a classic after 6 years! The classic scenes are a trip down memory lane.
In 2014, the Korean drama It's Okay, That's Love boldly explored the relationship between mental illness and love. It can be said to be the predecessor of It's Okay To Not Be Ok.
It has also won praise from many people. After finishing its run 6 years ago, it has been called a classic.
Jo In-Sung was at his peak handsomeness in the drama and the chemistry between him and his co-star was Kang Hyo-Jin was palpable.
Also, fans were really excited to see Exo member D.O. (Do Kyung-Soo) in the drama.
So let's dig into our recollections and relive some of the iconic scenes while we explore where they were filmed.
HWAWON RECREATION AREA
화원유원지
Address: 대구 달성군 화원읍 사문진로1길 40-14
Hours: 06:00-21:00
What was your first impression after seeing this beautiful garden?
After saving Hye-Jin from drowning, Hae-Soo and Jae-Yeol walked along the beautiful promenade located in Daegu.
It's easy to see how attentive the location scouts are.
In fact, this is not the only location in Daegu used in the drama. But more on that later.
BONGMU PARK
봉무공원
Address: 대구 동구 봉무동 산135-2
I jalready mentioned in the previous location that Jae-Yeol saved Hye-Jin from drowning. It was another scenic spot in Daegu, Bongmu Park.
It's Okay, That's Love filming locations have become popular among Daegu residents, so you can see a lot of people playing in the water these days.
Bongmu Park is a general, large park, not just a river or swimming hole.
But it’s quite interesting that the Daegu City Government actually inserted two human-shaped standing cards where Hae-Soo and Jae-Yeol lay (pictured below).
It’s really too much. I haven't seen it myself. If you see it, let us know.
COFFEE SMITH HONGDAE BRANCH
커피스미스 홍대점
Address: 서울 마포구 와우산로 82
Hours: 09:00-03:00
Coffee Smith perhaps sponsored a considerable amount of money considering it appeared quite often in the plot.
In fact, the Coffee Smith used in filming is located in Hongdae!
The film crew used the back door for each scene instead of the front door to avoid congestion.
Many people say that nothing has changed in the last six years. The interior and decorations have remained the same.
If it's not broken, don't fix it, right?
If you want to visit this location in the perfectly preserved state, I highly recommend it.
YOOGANE DAKGALBI
유가네닭갈비
This was another sponsored appearance in the drama. Yoogane is a very popular dakgalbi chain in Korea and can be found all over.
Actually, the one used in filming has since closed its branch, but there are still dozens, if not hundreds, of other branches at your disposal.
There are locations in all the major tourist hubs like Myeongdong, Hongdae, Jongro, etc.
It is al very reasonably priced and worth eating. By far, dakgalbi is one of the most foreigner-friendly options among Korean cuisine.
BIDULGINANG
비둘기낭폭포
Address: 경기 포천시 영북면 대회산리 415-2
Probably the most famous scene from the drama was filmed here at Bidulginang.
Many other Korean dramas have used this location, so it's not exactly unique to this drama.
But they use it for a reason, and that's because it is a beautiful location.
Although it is a long drive from Seoul, the scenery along the way and the scenery upon arrival more than make up for the weary traveling.
The waterfall is where Hae-Soo and Jae-Yeol kissed for the second time (and was slapped for the second time), but it also made Hae-Soo realize that she seemed to be tempted by Jae-Yeol?
The beautiful Pocheon scenery is not only limited to this waterfall. There are plenty of other breathtaking locations nearby.
POETE
포에트
Address: 서울 마포구 와우산로14길 12
Hours:
Weekdays: 11:00-19:00
Weekends: 12:00-20:00
In a very noisy scene in the drama, Kwang-Soo gets into a fight and Hae-Soo and Jae-Yeol join in.
This all takes place in a beautiful cafe in Hongdae.
There is also a great sandwich shop located here, providing an all-around great date location.
It's Okay, That's Love aired in 2014. At that time, it was a beer and coffee shop.
But since then, the management has changed and has become the cafe Poete.
KKOTMUL
꽃물
Address: 충남 공주시 반포면 하신소2길 29-2
Hours: 11:00-21:00
Thu: Closed
I doubt anyone has been here? It is actually a cafe in Gongju City. In the show, Jae-Yeol's mother lives here.
When I first watched It's Okay, That's Love, I was very impressed with this place.
I thought it was a real residence, but I didn't expect it to be a hanok teahouse with a rich ambience of ancient times.
It is located on a very desolate country road, but it's a worthwhile trip.
In the last episode, seeing Jae-Yeol and his family sitting around with his family while everyone is happy and smiling...that was wonderful.
HERB HILLS
허브힐즈
Address: 대구 달성군 가창면 가창로 1003
Hours:10:00-18:00
Cost: ₩9,500 per person
Returning to the filming scout's favorite city, Daegu, we can see one of the locations that have experienced a huge uptick in visitors as a result of the success of It's Okay, That's Love.
The beautiful forest scenery and the mountain landscape is refreshing after being in the city.
In Herb Hills, they filmed the scene where Jae-Yeol fell asleep in the toilet.
This is not actually a toilet located on-site. It was built specifically for filming.
At the live concert (shown below), you can see the beautiful natural landscaping done at Herb Hills in Daegu.
It's great to walk around and take pictures, but don't forget that the admission fee is ₩9,500 per person.
CAFE SEMO
카페 세모
Address: 서울 마포구 와우산로22길 34
Everyone still remembers the artist from It's Okay, That's Love who painted beautiful things, including a colorful camel artwork.
In the seventh episode when he and Hae-Soo were staring at his latest artwork on the walls of a cafe, it was located in Hongdae as well.
It is within walking distance of the aforementioned Coffeesmith and Poete.
The beautiful graffiti still remains, and there are many murals in the surrounding area.
When walking on the streets of Hongdae, you might as well check it out.
The odds are good that you'll wind up in Hongdae at least once.
EUNGBONGSAN
응봉산
Address: 서울 성동구 금호동4가 1540
I want to introduce the last scenic spot from It's Okay, That's Love, which is the park where Jae-Yeol meets his friend all the time.
Is everyone else also impressed by the night view in these scenes?
This is one of the most beautiful views in Seoul, courtesy of a short hike up Eungbongsan.
Kings of the Joseon Dynasty liked to hunt eagles here. Nowadays, in the spring time, the flowers are in full bloom and there are a lot of people.
The height of the mountain is only 81 meters above sea level.
It is very easy to climb, but you can see the beautiful night view of Seoul.
Next time you come to Seoul, you might as well arrange a night scene tour!
Hopefully, you enjoyed our review of the filming locations. How do you rate this drama?
Many people consider It's Okay, That's Love to be a classic due to it's portrayal of delicate and taboo topics.
If you ever get the chance, I would highly recommend you visit the locations in Daegu. They are really worth a trip!
