My Mister | Complete List Of Filming Locations You Should Visit In Korea
Where Did They Film All The Beautiful Scenes In IU's Popular Drama 'My Mister'? Find Out Here!
When it was released, My Mister was a drama filled with mourning and tension.
It starred IU (Lee Ji-Eun), the famous kpop singer, and the national treasure known as Lee Sun-Kyun. The show depicts the story as the workers try to navigate the tension and challenges that arise in daily life, giving each other assistance when necessary.
Although the plot showed a lot of emotional release and healing, it didn't translate into great ratings during its run. However, it has become a classic among the countless dramas and is considered one of the best-filmed dramas.
Every background image has a story, so let's peel back the layers and zoom in on some of the more memorable locations used in filming.
YEONGGWANG LOANS
Location: Yeonan Apartment (연안아파트)
Address: 인천 중구 항동7가 91-2
Even though the exterior is foreboding and a little rundown, this is a rather quaint and interesting time-capsule in Incheon.
The almost prison-like exterior really makes for a great backdrop to scenes seeking to portray tension. If you're ever in the area, you can stop by, but be aware that it is a residence and people live here!
The show used this setting to film the most distressing fight scene in the drama. In the scene, Dong-hoon fights to defend Ji-an. It was such a romantic thing to do!
THE APARTMENT COMPLEX
Location: Seosomun Apartment (서소문아파트)
Address: 서울 서대문구 미근동 215
In the drama, a group of 4 men from the safety inspection department stumble upon this interesting apartment complex after a dinner party.
One man comments on the crooked architecture mimics the crooked road. He states that it shouldn't exist.
This apartment complex is located in Seodaemun-gu, which is rife with high-rise apartments that stand antithetical to this one, which loans a sense of uniqueness and solidarity.
HUGYE-DONG RAILROAD CROSSING
Address: 서울 용산구 한강로3가 40-37
This railroad crossing is one of the most important background drops in the entire drama. Many important scenes were filmed here, including several emotional and impactful ones.
It is so central to the show that if you visit the location on Google Maps, it will be listed as "My Mister Railway."
"Hugye" is not a real location in Seoul, so this railway is in a small neighbourhood near Yongsan station. It is mostly part of the KTX line running through the neighborhood.
To this day, many people still come and take pictures here and you can be one of them.
JUNGHEENE RESTAURANT
Address: 인천 동구 만석동 43-35
This one is located in Incheon, which is very far from the railroad crossing mentioned previously.
However, in the drama it is made to appear as though they are within walking distance from each other. The tricks of editing!
The building in real life has not been changed much since the way that it appeared in the drama. The sign has been taken down (that wasn't nor does it remain the actual name).
But the pictures of the cats and whales remain, so fans of the drama still visit this location frequently and post photos of it.
HUGYE STATION
Location: Sinjeong Intersection station (신정네거리역) Exit 4
Address: 서울 양천구 신정동 1032-9
Hugye is not a real place - it was invented for the drama. So they renovated exit 4 of Sinjeong Intersection station to look like this.
Perhaps you would be very confused if you kept trying to find Hugye station on your own.
WHERE DONG-HOON OFTEN TOOK JI-AN FOR FOOD
Location: Kojubang (코주방)
Address: 경기 고양시 정발산동 682-7
This restaurant was the setting for several key moments in the drama, including when Dong-hoon waited with bated breath for Ji-an to find him there.
The atmosphere of the restaurant really matched the scene, didn't it?
This is a really popular local restaurant. It is mostly for serving alcohol and finger food to complement it.
The tile and the furniture really give an interesting feeling while you dine and drink. It's a great spot for a relaxing beer with friends.
THE ROAD WITH THE BUDDHIST LANTERNS
Location: Jeongsu Buddhist Temple (정수사)
Address: 인천 강화군 화도면 사기리 467-3
In the drama, it looks like Dong-hoon is walking home along this road. But actually, it's a road that leads to a scenic Buddhist temple in the deep countryside of Incheon.
That's why the Buddhist lanterns are hanging alongside the road.
BROTHER'S CLEANING SHOP
Address: 경기 이천시 송정동 증신로303
This cleaning shop is located VERY far outside of Seoul. Makes me wonder why they went all the way there just to film it? Must be pretty special!
Actually, since filming wrapped up, this cleaning shop has been taken over by another business. So it isn't even there anymore.
One of the most interesting scenes involved the car used by the cleaning shop tipping over in front of the store. It sure would be interesting to see that actually happen, wouldn't it?
SAM-AN E&C
Location: Korea Yakult Building (한국야쿠르트)
Address: 서울 서초구 강남대로 577
If you were ever curious about this company and you felt compelled to look it up, you might find it difficult to learn about.
That's because it's an imaginary company created by the show's producers. They simply installed the fake sign using CGI in the shot.
The actual building, however, is located just outside of Sinsa station exit 4.
The actual office building is home to the Korea Yakult (한국야쿠르트) that you often receive after a spicy meal or in a school cafeteria.
THE BAR WHERE THE THREE BROTHERS HAD DRINKS
Location: Village Brother (빌리지 브라더)
Address: 서울 양천구 목동 406-218
Hours: 16:00-01:00
This bar appeared in the first episode where the three brothers were drinking and it is also where Ji-an asked Dong-hoon to buy her food for the first time.
Do you remember IU wearing the sunglasses? Many people say that she is the least suitable person to wear sunglasses.
It's a great bar with an extensive beer selection. It's also located relatively close to the aforementioned "My Mister Railway." So you can visit both in one trip if you'd like.
Although it certainly has been some time since the drama finished, the lasting impact remains in the hearts of many and is still discussed in certain circles.
Hopefully you enjoyed seeing some of the scenes again and feel compelled to relive some of the best moments where they took place.
