As a reminder, because there is a lunch break (15:00 to 17:00 every day), everyone should be on time. Otherwise, the owner won't be ready to offer you his marvellous food. I walk by this place sometimes on weekdays, and there isn't too much crowd, so you can eat without waiting.
Hongdae's "Hongik Gejang" has ordinary seats and floor mats. I had my experience on the mat. Yes, my legs felt a bit numb.
There are three unlimited-refill options available in the store. I chose the second ₩ 19,900, "Sauced Crab and Sauced Prawn, with a pot of crab soup (soup not refilled)". Those who prefer spicy food, choose the first option.
Everyone will be given a bowl of purple rice, and the sauced crabs and sauced shrimps will be served soon. Totally exciting! Smell it first, don't worry about any frightening fishy smell.
The soup just mentioned is like the above photo. It can be spicy, but not too much. If you want to more food, add some ramen.
After small dishes such as fish roes and kimchi (refilled), Hongdae's "Hongik Gejang" is even better. A steamed egg and kimchijeon will be delivered. The two cannot be refilled unfortunately.
Look at this delicious crab, isn't it wonderful? I didn't dare to eat this food at first, but after trying it once, the taste was unforgettable. Especially in the cold autumn and winter, crabs are more delicious.
The shop also has scissors and gloves to make it easier for you to enjoy the sauce crab. There may be many people who think that the smell might be too much, but Hongdae's "Hongik Gejang" is handled very well, and it tastes like good seafood without the smell.
How to eat this? Full of crab paste and delicious meat, just mix the rice into it and eat it, and you'll be lost for words.
Mix the rice and crab paste with a bit of soy sauce, and use a spoon. There's no yucky smell, and the seafood is as sweet as it gets in Korea.
I like to mix it all, seafood, rice, and fish roes, and then wrap it up with seaweed.
I noticed that the shrimps had the insides taken out, so when they were eaten raw, there was no fishy smell. Hongdae’s "Hongik Gejang" gets a bonus from me for this good job.
If you don’t think you've had enough, just press the bell on the table, and the waiter will come to serve another whole plate of crab and shrimp sauce. You won't believe how fast they are.
Even the crab claws have meat, don't miss them.
The memorable soy shrimp, although generally the soy sauce taste is quite strong, is also very fresh and sweet, and you won't get tired of it at all. We ate three rounds before leaving with our tummy full.
However, you should know that the line on the crab may not be clean, and everyone should be careful when eating Hongik Gejang. Don't eat the belly without paying attention.
On the whole, Hongdae's gourmet "Hongik Gejang" is considered to have a very good quality compared to price, and the two of us ate about 10 sauce crabs, which would have been very expensive elsewhere. Although it was a little greasy at the end, it was delicious.
