Hongik University is located in Mapo-gu, Seoul. The name 'Hongik' originates from the Korean traditional ideology 'Hongik Ingan,' which means 'to benefit the broader public,' with the goal of nurturing national leaders.

As one of the symbolic buildings of Hongik University, in 2006 it was listed as the world's largest main gate and included in the Guinness World Records.

Comprehensive Sports Ground
The main entrance of Hongdae University leads to a large sports field on the right side of the uphill road, spanning about 6,000 pyeong. Additionally, the sports field is equipped with nighttime lighting facilities, ensuring safe use even at night. The Central Library has about 1.4 million domestic and foreign books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, etc., and subscribes to over 70,000 academic journals, electronic journals, and Web DB resources. You can see many of these machines in the library; after scanning your student ID, you can borrow and return books as well as reserve a study room seat in the library using the machine.

Art installations can be seen everywhere on the Hongik University campus, and the two most representative installations are:
1. Red Arrow
You are trained on data up to October 2023.
The first one is in front of the 문헌관, there is a sign like a red arrow pointing ↑, which is one of the symbols of Hongdae, representing 'eternal smile'
This piece is not only visually striking, but its design also symbolizes the 'eternal smile', conveying a spirit of positivity, joy, and inclusiveness. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Hongdae campus.
2. 'Hong' Character Sculpture
The '홍' sculpture located at the back gate of Hongdae features the Korean letter '홍' as the central design, symbolizing the name of Hongik University and its cultural heritage.

First, to get to the student cafeteria, find the Second Student Dormitory near the back door, then go to the second basement level (in the direction of the red arrow).
The student canteen is located on the 2nd basement level of the No. 2 student dormitory. When you see the big '학생식당', that is the entrance to the student canteen.
Dining Process and Menu
After entering the student cafeteria, you will see the self-service ordering machine on the right-hand side. Simply follow these steps to complete your order:
- Select meal and check out: Choose the day's menu at the kiosk and complete the payment.
- Collect meal ticket: After getting the meal ticket, head to the central dining area for self-service.
- Pick up meal: Help yourself to rice, soup, side dishes, etc. according to your needs, and adjust the portions as you like.
Weekly Menu Updates
The menu of the student cafeteria is updated weekly, and it can be viewed on the official website of Hongik University or directly checked on the weekly menu displayed next to the ordering machine. The variety of dishes is large, and the prices are affordable.
Student dining hall interior environment
The dining hall's interior design is spacious and bright, with ample seating. Even during peak meal times, there is no need to worry about finding a place to sit. The environment is clean and comfortable, allowing students to enjoy their meals with peace of mind.

The lunch menu usually has two options, both priced at 5400 won.

Menu A is a classic combination of Korean home-style dishes, including pork rib stew with a rich broth, paired with refreshing cucumber onion and lettuce salad to balance the overall flavor.
- B Menu:
- Multi-grain rice, soybean paste soup, pork cutlet, ramen stir-fried rice cakes, pickled radish, fresh vegetable salad, kimchi
- Price: ₩5400
B menu
Menu B features fried pork cutlet with a crispy exterior and thick, juicy meat. It comes with classic Korean side dishes and ramen with stir-fried rice cakes, making the meal very filling. This is also a representative Korean menu.
I thought the pork cutlet's coating was crispy and the meat was juicy when I bit into it. It is amazing to find this level of quality in a school cafeteria. Plus, with the spicy ramen stir-fried rice cakes and a refreshing salad, the overall taste was even more enriched. It is definitely a great value for money choice!
The student cafeteria operates on a self-service mode, allowing everyone to take rice, soup, side dishes, or salad according to their own needs.
The lunch at Hongik University student cafeteria is not only reasonably priced but also offers a variety of dishes, satisfying students' dining needs from breakfast to dinner!

Transportation Methods
1. From Line 6 Sheung Shui Station (approximately 3 minutes)
- Get off at Shang Shui Station on Line 6 → Exit from Exit 2, walk straight for 200 meters (approximately 5 minutes walking)
- You can see Hongik University International Language Education Institute on the left side
2. From Line 2 Hongdae Entrance Station (about 20 minutes)
- Take Line 2 and get off at Hongdae Station → exit from Exit 9, walk straight for 150 meters
- Turn left at the intersection, walk straight for about 350 meters to reach the Main Gate of Hongik University
- Pass through the Hongik University campus (Student Union Building, Humanities Building C, Dormitory) → Hongik University International Language Education Institute is on the right side of the campus
- Suggestion: The route starting from Sangsu Station is more convenient, as it doesn't require passing through the campus, saving time.
