Ancient Tombs in Songsan-ri (Tomb of King Muryeong)

In Songsan-ri, you can see a group of ancient tombs where the royal family from the Baekje period are gathered. The most prominent of these is the tomb of King Muryeong, the only king from the Three Kingdoms period of the Joseon Dynasty whose tomb is known. A variety of archaeological sites similar to these tombs have been excavated, helping us learn more about the culture and diplomacy of the time. These sites are very highly valued!

Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress

Gongsanseong Fortress provided as protection for the capital of Baekje and is currently registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortress wall runs a length of 2,660 meters; 735 meters of the eastern wall is earthen while the rest is made of stone. The fortress that is currently standing is said to have been rebuilt during the Joseon Dynasty.

There are many ruins that remain in Gongsanseong Fortress, as well as many traditional buildings that serve various functions.

Retro Street

Retro Street is a very popular place to visit in Gongju. It is filled with buildings and structures from the 70's, filling its visitors with a sense of nostalgia from its retro atmosphere.

You can also stop by the Jemincheon Stream, which flows through the center of Retro Street, and visit some pretty cafes in the area. Additionally, Gongju is the hometown of JYJ's Jaejoong, so fans can also get a peek of the exterior of his old schools!
