Public school tuitions are generally lower than private school tuition and humanities and social study fields tend to be more affordable than engineering and medical studies. Korean universities have several scholarship programs for international students. For the top-performing students, schools pay from 30% to 100% of their tuition. Not only do schools independently provide financial aid for their international students, but the Korean government and corporate companies also support them in their own ways. There are scholarships run by the Korean government for undergraduate students, Samsung has the Global Hope scholarship, and POSCO has its POSCO Asia Fellowship, all to aid international students study in Korea at a more reasonable cost.
Of course, tuition isn't the only concern. Students will have to think about their living expenses while they're in Korea. Albamon, a Korean job-searching website, found that Korean university students spend an average of 592,000 KRW. In addition, a study conducted by Statistics Korea in 2022 found that Koreans aged between 18 to 24 get an average of 640,000 KRW as an allowance from their parents. That said, it can be noted that Korean university students spend about 600,000 KRW per month on average.
