Finding Halal-certified snacks in Korea is certainly not easy. So we took it upon ourselves to try out some of the Muslim-friendly snacks to see how they taste!

Drinks

Many drinks you'll find at convenience stores should be Muslim-friendly, but the safe ones we know of are the three in the photo!

Binggrae Banana Milk (빙그레 바나나맛 우유) ₩1,300

This is a classic drink many Koreans grew up drinking. It's a great drink to pair with spicy food! Also, you'll find that a lot of different Binggrae milk flavours are available now.

Petitzel Water Jelly (쁘띠젤 워터젤리) ₩1,900

This refreshing jelly drink is low in calories but packed with flavours, making them a perfect snack! For halal and vegan options, you want to look for grape, apple, grapefruit and peach flavours.

Chilsung Cider (칠성사이다) ₩1,400 and up depending on size

A popular soda drink in Korea, it's like a Korean version of Sprite. Most of their flavours are safe to drink, but the safest option is to go with the classic!

Savoury Food

If you're craving something savoury and filling, these are great go-tos!

Gamdongran (감동란) ₩1,900

These soft-boiled eggs, which are soft and seasoned, come in a set of two. They make perfect snacks or go well in instant noodles, too!

Triangle Kimbap Tuna Mayo Flavour (참치 마요네즈 삼각김밥) ₩1,000

Another light snack or meal you can find at any convenience store in Korea is samgak gimbap which roughly translates to triangular kimbap. 

There's lots of meat options when it comes to samgak gimbaps, which might draw you away from even considering them, but the tuna mayonnaise flavour is a safe halal option!

Snacks

Mat Bam (맛밤) ₩3,500

Great news for chestnut lovers! CJ's Mat Bams are low in calorie and super flavourful. Perfect for when you want to munch on something hearty but not super heavy.

Mat Goguma (맛 고구마) ₩3,500

A sister product of Mat Bam, you get cute pieces of dried, chewy sweet potato pieces. If you like gogumas (sweet potatoes), you've got to try this snack version of them!

Pepero ₩1,500

Most Pepero flavours are safe and the ones that are halal-certified are Almond Pepero and Peanut Pepero.

Pepero Nude Chocolate

Nude Chocolate is hollow inside and the inside is covered with a thin layer of chocolate while the top parts are also covered with chocolate. It's got the ideal ratio of chocolate to biscuit in my opinion, so if you're one of those people who are not into snacks that are extremely sweet, consider these an option!

Pepero Almond

Pepero Almond is one of the OG flavours that is loved by everyone. The almonds give a good nuttiness to the chocolate-covered biscuits. Simply amazing!

Kkokkalcorn (꼬깔콘) ₩1,500

This corn flavour snack doesn't only taste good but it's also fun to put over your fingers to create witch nails! 

Dr. You Energy Bar (닥터유 에너지바) ₩1,200

It's considered a healthy snack with mixed nuts (35%), cereal (7.3%), fruits (7.8%), with streaks of chocolate on top. It's another quick filler or a good sweet to have in between your meals.

Yeonyanggang (연양갱) ₩900

Yeonyanggang, a jelly-like red bean snack with a dense texture, is sweet and filling. It's generally known as a snack loved by seniors, but many people seem to enjoy it regardless of age.

The packaging also indicates that it contains 25mg of taurine, if a little hint of health benefit helps!
