Premium Jeju Teahouse in Seoul
Hello everyone! We're Creatrip, your group of Korean travel experts.
Osulloc, short for 'the origin of sulloc,' also conveys 'the expression of admiration for the vitality of green tea that blooms even in snow,' in Korean. As the underlying meanings of the name indicate, the brand was based on the founder's passion for quality green tea. The brand has established itself as the green tea brand of Korea, serving up a variety of green teas and matcha desserts in their charming teahouses while also cultivating and harvesting these tea leaves themselves as well as preparing beautifully packaged green tea merchandise that mas a perfect gift.
Osulloc 1979 is the highest-end Osulloc branch location, offering multi-tier afternoon tea set filled with colourful desserts with golden touches and of course, its premium tea.
Its grand exterior and luxurious light fixtures hanging at divergent heights instantly informed me that I had arrived at Osulloc 1979. Upon walking in, the high ceilings and the large space gave me a great sense of openness. Premium teas of various flavours all of which are healthy, revitalizing and natural are served here with pastries.
Once we grabbed a table, the server presented the menu and tea samples. Under the lid of each sample, a very poetic name of the tea is revealed. Because Osulloc 1979 focuses on promoting its healthy teas, it's customary for visitors to order a pot of tea per person. The afternoon tea for 1 consists of a pot of tea and a one-tier tray of 8 desserts. The afternoon tea for 2 consists of two pots of tea and a three-tier tray of 16 desserts. Given it was a sunny afternoon and we were in the mood to splurge a bit more, we decided on the two-person afternoon tea set for 50,000KRW.
After about 15 minutes, our tea was served first along with a brief introduction of each tea in Korean given by the server. One interesting mention was that after finishing the tea, it could be brewed again with hot water because it will have maintained its flavour well. In just a couple of minutes, the three-tier tray filled with stunning pastries was served and we were finally ready to lounge the afternoon away by slowly tasting these delicacies with an aromatic pot of quality tea from Jeju.
The top layer features delightfully curated pastries with golden touches to them! The green pastry with red bean was a bit sweet for my taste but all others tasted great.
The second tier had more traditional local touches to them with rice cookies, yogurt with the seasonal grapefruit, pies with assorted nuts and the delicious cake.
The aroma of Osulloc's specialty matcha butter was heavenly, poking my curiosity of the tea garden Osulloc manages on Jeju Island.
