We reserved the show on Sunday at 14:00. Because the pandemic is starting to subside, the performances were back after a long break so it was quite crowded! There were Korean families and also foreigners who were excited about the performance. There are performances on the weekdays and weekends, so you can stop by after exploring the neighborhood.

Audience seated inside Nanta Theater before the show begins.

It was our first time to watch a performance show and we were pretty amazed. We didn't know that so many people enjoyed watching performances in theaters. Half of the audience were Korean and the other half seemed to be foreigners.

Finally, the NANTA shows has officially begun!

The actors started out wearing Hanbok, opening in a super-dream scene, and playing around with Korean bowls, washboard, and drums. It had a traditional Korean vibe, and with the dim lighting, it felt more mysterious and dreamy.

The summary of the NANTA show is as follows:

Three chefs start the day preparing the vegetables and organizing the kitchen, but a bad-tempered manager appears and orders them to make ten menus for a wedding before 6 pm. The chefs have obviously not been told about this event. Also, the manager brings his young nephew with him and demands that the chefs teach him how to cook. After barking these impossible orders, the manager disappears.

The remaining three chefs and nephews must make the meal before 6 pm. In the cooking process, there are many funny episodes. As for the details of the episodes, please come and watch the show for yourself!

The advantage of Nanta show is that the audience has the opportunity to participate in the performance. People in the audience are chosen to be the groom or the bride at a traditional Korean wedding. They may also participate in the dumpling game, and make dumplings with the performers, or cook with the chef. The audience is asked to clap their hands together to create a rhythm.

By engaging the audience in the performance, the performance stays interesting and makes the audience more engaged.

I didn't have many expectations for the show, because since the show has been continued for over 20 years, I thought it would be boring and old-fashioned.

However, after actually watching it, I felt that the story of the show and the performer's acting skills were great. Also, the combination of the rhythm and music, as well as the creative kitchen dance, made a really interesting performance.

In order to bring a fresh sense to the audience, the Nanta show added new elements to the existing structure. So Nanta is not a performance that is only suitable for watching once, but rather, every time you watch it, it will have a different freshness. It was a novelty performance.

The Nanta show is one of the most popular shows in Korea. The story is really intriguing and the actors are really enthusiastic about the performance. When the actors chased the dishes, the dishes would fly to the audience, and they could feel the enthusiasm of the actors. Everybody applauded continuously after the performance.

Towards the end of the performance, the water on the drums was seen splattering and the light shown on them made them look more mesmerizing. The show is 100 minutes long, but thanks to the colorful and humorous nature of the performers, it scored 100 points in our hearts.

Moreover, the show is not only performed in Myeong-dong, but also in Jeju Island. If you visit Myeongdong or Jeju Island, make sure to catch a performance!
