Our Visit
Jagalchi Market is located in Nampo-dong in Busan.
It is the largest and most well-known fish market in Korea.
If you ask a local in Busan where you can find fresh seafood, almost everyone will recommend Jagalchi Market.
The market is housed in a large building with seven floors.
No matter what day of the week you come to Jagalchi Market, the main building is always full of people shopping for fresh seafood.
There are all types of seafood here such as fish, shrimp, crab, octopus, oysters, and more.
The seafood here is fresh and affordable.
If you're looking to make seafood dishes at home, we highly recommend getting your ingredients from Jagalchi Market.
Before COVID-19, Jagalchi Market was always packed with locals, visitors, and sellers.
Tourists from all over Korea and the world made sure to stop here for fresh and affordable seafood.
Here is the map of Jagalchi Market:
- B1, B2: Parking
- 1st Floor: Fish Market
- 2nd Floor: Raw Fish Restaurant Zone, Marine Food Zone, and Dried Sea Products Zone
- 3rd Floor: Jagalchi Cypress Enzyme Spa, Soribada Karaoke, Jagalchi Gallery, Busan Youth Center, and Busan Fish & Shellfish Treatment Association Office
- 4th Floor: Busan Youth Center, Dadohae Korean Restaurant, and Jagalchi Market Office
- 5th & 6th Floor: Not specified
- 7th Floor: Rooftop Observatory (09:00-21:00)
Most visitors will buy fresh seafood on the first floor and then head to the restaurants on the second floor with their freshly bought purchases.
When we entered the market on the first floor, we were surprised by how clean the market was.
The floors were a bit slippery, so be careful when you're exploring the market here.
There are many stalls you can buy fresh seafood from.
There were fresh crabs and different types of fish and shellfish.
There were so many options to choose from!
If you are looking for a specific cut of fish, then you can let the store owner know, and they will happily prepare this for you.
There were big signs on the first floor that directed visitors to the various areas of the market.
At each stall, there were price tags on display next to each item that they sold.
After making your purchase, if you would like to eat your fresh seafood immediately, then you can take it to the second floor.
On the second floor, there are many restaurants that will prepare your freshly bought seafood for a fee.
This fee varies by restaurant, but it usually costs 5,000 to 10,000 won per person depending on the type and the amount of seafood that needs to be prepared.
If you don't want to buy seafood on the first floor, then you can just head directly to the second floor and order from the restaurant menus there.
We recommend grabbing a table near the window to enjoy the ocean view.
We didn't buy anything from the market on the first floor and decided instead to order something from one of the restaurants on the second floor.
We ordered spicy seafood soup (매운탕).
Our spicy seafood soup was so big, and it came with shrimp, octopus, and clams.
All of this food only cost 50,000 won!
There are a lot of tables to choose from on the second floor.
Like the first floor, the second floor of Jagalchi Market was very clean.
There is also an area on the second floor that sells dried seafood products.
There were lots of different things to buy like dried anchovies, dried squid, and different types of dried fish.
If you go outside, there are a number of seafood restaurants around the main building area of the market.
These restaurants will also prepare your freshly bought seafood for a fee.
This is Daeseong Sashimi (대성횟집).
It is one of the most famous restaurants in Busan.
This restaurant is known for its crab dishes.
Because this restaurant is very spacious, you won't need to worry about having to wait long for a table.
When we visited here, we ordered the spicy seafood soup (매운탕), which came with crab, and snow crab (대게).
All the seafood here tasted incredibly fresh!
Don't these side dishes look so delicious?
There are other tasty and unique dishes on the menu here as well.
