Mokpo Dongbu Market: The Biggest Market In Mokpo
Fall into the charm of Korean traditional markets at Mokpo Dongbu Market that has everything you're looking for.
Become a local in Mokpo and walk around its largest traditional market.
You can catch a glimpse of the lifestyle of Koreans and the culture along with some delicious food.
Let's visit the Dongbu Market (동부시장), the largest market in the city!
Dongbu Market is located in the center of Mokpo, a 10-minute drive from Mokpo Station.
There are about 375 shops in the market and it is currently the largest market in Mokpo where you can buy pretty much anything.
There are many entrances to the market, but when we got off at the station, we were at the south side (남문).
As soon as you enter from the south gate, you'll see that there are clothes on sale that are for children and adults.
The prices are very affordable.
The tops and jackets for adults are only 5,000 won.
Shirts for children are discounted at 3,000 won and 5,000 won for two.
There are blankets that are sold here as well that are similar to the ones from Gwangjang Market.
If you're interested in any of the products, you can order with our shopping service right away at your convenience.
In addition to the clothes, you can also find appliances such as these pots that you may have seen a lot in K-dramas.
If you eat ramen from this pot, it somehow tastes even better!
You can find various fruits at affordable prices.
All the fruits are really fresh, especially these large boxes of strawberries. The prices range from 4,000 to 8,000 won per box.
And if you buy 3 boxes, it's only 10,000 won!
There is also a section of fresh vegetables and seafood.
Along the way, we saw a rice cake store, a dumpling store, and a vegetable store.
Each store had its own delicious food that you can't just pass by.
We recommend these for people who have small portions as it's wrapped in little boxes for one person.
We wanted to eat some fried street food so we visited a popular place called Byungpum Matjip (병품 맛집).
But the day that we went, it was unfortunately closed.
The owner of a store next door told us that they're actually hardly ever closed so we just had bad luck!
We walked a little further and smelt some delicious food.
After searching up places on Naver, we found that Wonjo Chabssal Sundae (원조 찹쌀 순대) is famous for its pork feet.
There were many customers at the restaurant.
We ordered their soup with rice, gukbap (국밥) and a small dish of porks feet, mini jok (미니 족).
After making our order, we were served our banchan (side dishes) immediately.
Then, we waited for our food to arrive.
Although we ordered their smallest portion, it was served with sundae (순대) too, which are Korean blood sausages.
We recommend getting a larger portion for those that are hungry!
Gukbap (국밥) is pork served in a soup with rice. It's slightly spicy and very delicious.
This dish was very filling!
We were still quite upset that the popular fried food market was closed when we went.
Hopefully, when you get to visit, you will be able to stop by and let us know how it tastes!
