Chungcheongdo Sundae: Authentic Blood Sausages At A Traditional Market In Danyang, Korea
Located in the biggest traditional market of Danyang, this restaurant specializes in sundae approved by chef Baek Jong-won!

It's a program hosted by Baek Jong-won, a famous chef that travels around Korea and introduces different restaurants across the country.
There is a restaurant in Danyang that Baek Jong-won highly praised, so we decided to visit on our one day trip.
Come with us to Chungcheongdo Sundae!
Chungcheongdo Sundae is located inside Danyang Gugyeong Traditional Market, the largest market in Danyang.
I thought it would be difficult to find because the market is very large but it was located at the entrance of the alley and was 3-4 times bigger than the other stores so it was fairly easy to locate!
When you walk through the entrance and look to the right, you will find Chungcheongdo Sundae.
At the entrance, there were printed images of scenes from the show, Baek Jong-won's Top 3 Chef King.
The main sign they received on the show and Baek Jong-won's autograph is visible at the entrance.
Since all the seats were located on one side of the restaurant, the space felt long instead of wide.
If you come here on the weekend or during rush times, it's packed with tourists and locals trying to have a meal.
They said that there used to be very long wait times before Covid-19.
They try to keep things hygienic, as you can see from the tables that are covered with a sheet of paper.
After a customer is done, they change the cover each time.
As you can gather from its name, Chungcheongdo Sundae specializes in sundae.
Sundae is a Korean food made by filling pig intestines with vegetables, vermicelli, and other ingredients then steaming them.
It's similar to blood sausages and is one of the most loved foods in Korea! I like to eat it with tteokbokki or in soup.

Their menu is not very diverse. It's mostly centered around sundae and soup with rice.
The restaurant specializes in garlic sundae since Danyang is famous for its garlic.
It was the first time I ate sundae with garlic so I was excited to try it.
Side note, garlic sundae and spicy garlic sundae can be vacuum packed for 10,000 won per pack for those who want to take it to-go!
We ordered the garlic sundae giblets hotpot in medium.
After seeing Baek Jong-won eating this on the show, I really wanted to try it.

This is the garlic sundae giblets hotpot from Chungcheongdo Sundae.
They did not offer many side dishes. Kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), peppers, red chili paste, and salted shrimp were all that came with it.
You can tell that its main focus is the main menu.
This garlic sundae giblets hotpot is made by adding various seasonings in bone broth that has been boiled for a long time as soon as you place your order.

At the center of the pot, there are leek and enoki mushrooms.
Perilla powder is sprinkled on top to make the soup taste savory and rich in flavor.
There are 9 garlic sundaes around the vegetables and the sundae itself is enough for just one portion.
Where are the giblets?
They're all hidden under the red broth!
Among the giblets, the thinnest are the most popular among Koreans.
At first, I was a bit concerned because I didn't see any giblets, but when I scooped it with a ladle, I was surprised to see all the meat that was hiding.
I was curious how the garlic sundae would taste! Since it has a lot of garlic, it overpowers the smell of pork.
The chewy sundae with a subtle taste of garlic was very tasty.
Of course, being a Korean I'm used to eating a lot of garlic so I felt that the taste of garlic wasn't that strong.
But if you're not used to it, you might find it intense.
The broth was very red so I thought it would taste spicy but it was surprisingly light and mild.
Bring it to a boil to fully cook the vegetables, and after a while, turn off the heat to enjoy it with white rice.
We thought that it would taste really good with soju as well.
If you didn't know, the combination of hotpot and soju is amazing.
Unfortunately for us, we didn't order soju because we had other plans after this but if you are planning a visit, we recommend having dinner here with a bottle of soju!
