Are you planning a trip to Korea this June? Here’s how you should dress during your visit. In early June, simple early summer attire is appropriate. However, it’s important to note that starting in late June, Korea enters its rainy season.
Whether you're in Seoul or Busan, you may encounter some rain. While this might be a bit disappointing, it's still a good idea to prepare in advance. Be sure to check out out recommendations to help you plan accordingly.
South Korea Weather in June
Average Temperature (Seoul): Highs (25~35℃ or 77~95°F) Lows (15~23℃ or 59~73°F)
As June ushers in the summer in South Korea, the temperatures are relatively comfortable early in the month but begin to rise by mid-June, leading to a somewhat hotter climate.
Starting in late June, South Korea enters its 'rainy season' (장마), which typically lasts until the end of July. If you're planning to visit during this time, be sure to pack an umbrella or rain boots, and consider bringing sandals suitable for rainy weather. Keep in mind that cities like Busan, which are closer to the equator, are a bit hotter than Seoul!

Get GOOD street food at traditional markets!
Unpopular opinion: Myeongdong street food isn't worth the money or the crowds. There are better options elsewhere! Myeongdong primarily offers popular street foods tailored to tourists, with limited traditional Korean options. For a more authentic and reasonably priced experience, try visiting a traditional market. Gwangjang Market was once a local favorite, but it has increasingly catered to tourists, with some vendors recently facing controversy for overpricing their food.
We recommend that you head over to Namdaemun Market or our personal favorite, Mangwon Market. There's even Tongin Market, which is smaller than the other markets mentioned, but less crowded.
Gwangjang Market - Foods that are popular in Gwangjang Market are bindaetteok (Crispy Mungbean Pancakes), yukhoe (Beef Tartare), kalguksu (Knife Cut Noodles), twisted donuts, and more! Make sure to head towards Cheonggyecheon Stream and you'll find the famous cafe onion's Gwangjang Market location. ABEBE Bakery, a popular donut shop on Jeju Island, also has a location in Seoul, right by Gwangjang Market. Some say that they are the best donuts they've ever had!
Mangwon Market - Mangwon Market likely offers the most diverse selection of food. You'll find everything from hotteok sprinkled with ppurinkle (cheese) dust to fried, giant stuffed peppers, and my personal favorite, dakgangjeong (fried chicken in sweet and spicy sauce). The neighborhood also features charming cafes and shops—be sure to stroll around and discover some hidden gems! Additionally, it's close to Mangwon Han River Park. Why not grab some takeout from the market and enjoy a picnic by the Han River? You can rent picnic mats from vendors at the park entrance or at the convenience stores inside the park.
Namdaemun Market - Namdaemun Market is known for selling literally everything, from dishware to bakery ware to designer knock offs. It also has a great food scene and is especially known for its 'Galchi Jorim (braised hairtail fish) Alley' and kalguksu stalls. There is this one hotteok stand, that always has a line, that's definitely worth the visit!
Tongin Market - Tongin is a little unique from the rest of the markets. You can buy coins and an empty lunch box (dosirak) and use the coins to get single portions of the street food at the market to fill up your lunch box. This is a perfect option if you want to try a variety of food but don't want to indulge too much. Popular foods at Tongin Market include the dry tteokbokki (tteokbokki fried in oil), mayak kimbap (mini kimbap), japchae (glass noodles with veggies), and more.
