YES hanbok

Writing about my first time wearing a Hanbok today 🙂
I’m a little obsessed with historical costumes,
Of course, wearing a Hanbok has long been one of the things I wanted to do for a long time.
It wasn't until the second half of 2024 when I saw a friend's Hanbok outdoor photoshoot pictures that I decided I wanted to have a photoset when I traveled to Korea soon after.
Different from the impression of Hanbok I had from watching TV dramas as a child,
These days Hanbok rental shops are the same as Chinese hanfu rental shops and Japanese kimono rental shops,
No longer limited to plain, simple tones.
Instead they became more ornate, the colors brighter, and there are even festive ceremonial dresses.
In addition, more modern clothing elements have been added, like lace, and trendy K-pop Hanbok styles that match popular music.
Photos look better and match modern selfie and photo-op trends more.

Many people are probably like me,
My memories of Hanbok go back a long time,
But with the rise of Hanbok,
It was probably around the time social media became more widespread.
With the rise of Facebook and Instagram back then,
Photos of different travelers wearing Hanbok also helped make Hanbok go viral,
And the Korean government has implemented a policy allowing free admission to historical palaces, such as Gyeongbokgung and Changdukgung, when wearing a Hanbok, so Hanbok outdoor photoshoot experiences quickly took shape and became more popular.
Wearing Hanbok in Korea and taking photos with a sense of history and story at city sights like Gyeongbokgung, Changdukgung, and Bukchon Hanok Village has become a unique cultural tourism experience.
Hanbok rentals have also boosted the makeup and hairstyling artists industry, the photographer industry, and more. Now there are more and more platforms offering one-stop Hanbok outdoor photoshoot services, so travelers can enjoy an immersive experience starting with makeup and styling.
My first time renting a Hanbok and booking an outdoor photoshoot session with a photographer,
It was booked through the Creatrip platform with YES Hanbok and Han Moment.

I remember feeling a bit oddly nervous at the time,
Maybe it's because I had never worn a Hanbok before,
Although I really liked the styles shown in the shop’s sample photos,
But I also worry that a Hanbok might not suit me,
Not sure how to put an outfit together.
Luckily YES Hanbok was really patient,
I said I wanted a more subtle style, a skirt with a floral pattern,
They led me to the area with the corresponding styles,
I actually couldn't decide between two or three styles at the time,
They even showed me how each top could be styled,
Finally I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting left and right and thinking for a long time
(At the time I hadn't imagined that over the following year I'd have the chance to wear different Hanbok several more times),
In the end I chose the style shown in the photo.

I did my own makeup 🫣
The hairstyle is a braided style by YES Hanbok.
Before styling, they also gave me several different styles to choose from,
I wasn't sure where would be suitable, and they also gave me suggestions,
They have staff who speak Chinese,
So the whole process was relaxed and fun, we finished with lots of talking and laughter 🙂
I thought editing it meant it was finished,
It turned out the shop even let me choose which hair accessory to pair with it,

and the desired placement.
As long as the guest has their own idea,
They really focus on what the customers want.
After your clothes and hair are all set,
Put your valuables and essentials into the Korean-style pouch provided by YES Hanbok (that way it matches the Hanbok you're wearing),

The rest of your belongings can be stored in the lockers inside their shop,
All the lockers can be locked, so they’re secure and reliable.

If you want to try Hanbok,
Don’t just think about it, make it happen 😌
