Authentic Korean makeup and hair experience

b
I recently used VIN HAIR & MAKE UP, a hair and makeup salon in Gangnam, Korea, and tried their hair and makeup plan (about 2 hours). Since we visited as a group of four, I was a little worried about how the treatments would proceed, but it turned out to be a very smooth and satisfying experience. I’m sharing the actual flow and my impressions in detail to help anyone considering a similar service.

First, I was worried beforehand about whether four people could receive treatments at the same time, but although there was a little waiting time when we switched, everyone was able to start their treatments almost simultaneously. The salon staff handled the number of people appropriately, and the process moved along without any stress from waiting, which was great. When visiting with a group, there’s often a wait, but this time that was well managed, and being able to finish at the same time as my friends felt like a big advantage.
Regarding the service duration, we were initially told it would take about 2 hours, but it actually finished in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. It ended roughly 30 minutes earlier than expected, but the quality of the results did not drop at all, in fact it felt like they worked more efficiently. During a trip your schedule can get packed, so finishing earlier than planned like this was really helpful, and we were able to move on to sightseeing and other plans with plenty of time to spare.
The salon’s facilities left an impression, especially the well-prepared waiting area. Even if the order of appointments shifts, there’s a space to sit and wait comfortably, so you won’t get worn out. There’s also a proper place to store luggage, so it’s reassuring to use while sightseeing. Visiting a salon abroad can feel uneasy if you’re not used to it, but having these basic facilities in place makes you feel more at ease.

For hair and makeup, we strongly recommend preparing and bringing images of the look you want in advance. This time, each of us showed reference pictures while placing our orders, and the stylists were able to reproduce them very faithfully. Even if your language skills aren’t perfect, sharing visuals helps avoid mismatches in the final result. Since Korean makeup trends differ a bit from Japan’s, showing specific images makes it easier to get closer to your ideal look.
What stood out most about the makeup was how much time they dedicated to the base makeup. They carefully evened out skin tone while emphasizing glow and translucency, giving a level of polish that’s hard to reproduce on your own. The foundation adhered well and felt very smooth, and it seemed to hold up without breaking down even after some time. They also applied false eyelashes and used techniques like briefly heating them to create curls, treatments you don’t often experience in Japan, which felt fresh and demonstrated a high level of skill.

They quickly finished the hair styling while keeping the overall balance in mind. The coordination with the makeup was clearly well thought out, and the finished overall look felt very refined. Even though it was a short amount of time, the attention to detail showed professional work.

I was also curious about the makeup products they used, so I asked the staff, and they were happy to explain. They even let me take photos of the actual items when I asked. This kind of responsiveness can be hard to find at salons abroad, but their attentive approach was really helpful and gave me useful ideas for my future makeup. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
What I felt overall was that everything was simply very efficient. There was no wasted time, each step moved smoothly, so I hardly felt any stress. At the same time, the finished look was high quality, giving the impression of both efficiency and excellence. As a service to use between sightseeing activities, it fits very well, and I felt it’s especially recommended for people who want to make the most of limited time.
Through this experience, I was reminded of how high the level of hair and makeup salons in Korea is, and how good the quality of their service is. I was very satisfied overall, especially with how smoothly they handled groups, how quickly they delivered high-quality results, and the thoughtful attention to detail. If you’re considering using one, bringing reference images ahead of time and allowing extra time in your schedule will help make the experience even more satisfying.
