Korean Smile nearsighted laser surgery
This time, I went to Seoul, South Korea with friends to do the long-awaited Smile LASIK surgery. We looked at many places, and the price for Smile surgery ranged from over 40,000 to over 60,000 New Taiwan Dollars (currently the exchange rate in South Korea is very good, so it is much cheaper). In the end, we made a reservation through @creatrip.tw

Reason for Selection
1. Korean Friend Recommendation
2. South Korea's largest eye clinic
3. Zeiss 100,000 cases reached hospital (seems like only 4 hospitals in the world have been certified)
4. Chinese Language Services
5. Convenient location (Seoul Subway: Sinchon Station Exit 8, building on the right when you come out)
Expected surgical procedure
Day 1: Arrival in South Korea
Day 2: Smile nearsighted laser surgery (It is not recommended to choose Saturday, because the clinic is closed on Sunday and cannot have a follow-up visit.)
Day 3: After the follow-up appointment, eat and return to the hotel to rest, then go out for fun
Day Four: Itinerary
Day Five: Sightseeing Itinerary, Return to Taiwan
Preoperative Preparation
1. Starting two weeks before surgery, stop wearing soft contact lenses (actually it seems like only one week is needed, I decided to make it two weeks early to give my eyes more rest).
2. Prepare sunglasses (Korean clinics say it may not be necessary for smile).
3. You can prepare a Korean credit card with high cash back! You can save some money.
4. Painkillers (We are afraid of pain after surgery, but actually we don't have to take them.)
Surgery Process
1. 15th floor reception looking for Chinese speaking staff (we have Korean staff who speak Chinese at the clinic, if there are too many Chinese people, they will hire a Chinese translator.)
2. Starting preoperative examination (The process is very quick and smooth, including nearsightedness degree, corneal thickness, eye pressure, etc., and in addition to the examinations related to the surgery, eye diseases will also be checked together, like myself, I was checked to have possible early-stage glaucoma, but it does not affect the surgery.)
3. Checking for optic nerve examination (My friend does not have it because my optic nerve seems to be weaker, so the doctor suggested doing more, but it does not affect whether surgery can be performed, just helping me to check more so that I can have a follow-up examination in Taiwan.)
4. Provide postoperative examination results booklet
5. Doctor consultation (will suggest surgical procedures that can be performed, because my eyes are dry, I chose smlie.)
6. Explanation of surgical methods, risks, procedures, etc. and signing of consent form, and giving postoperative eye drops, including antibiotics, steroids, artificial tears, and an eye mask for sleeping. (Note: I have a corneal enhancement due to thin cornea, severe myopia, and dry eyes, costing about 200,000 Korean won)
7. Payment (credit card accepted)
8. Second Eye Examination
9. Surgery on floors 9 to 17 (Upon entering, wearing surgical gowns—>placing items—>confirming identity—>eye disinfection—>surgery, the whole process is very fast, so fast that sometimes the Chinese translation has not been completed, but the action has already been completed.)
10. Return home (Just finished surgery, feeling a bit foggy, can use artificial tears, will immediately become very clear.)
11. Follow-up visit the next day (will check wound healing, whether there is eye discharge entering the wound.)
12. Cleaning eyes (only my friend has, because there is eye boogers.)
13. Follow-up appointment (only my friend has it, because he had his eyes cleaned, so he will have another check-up.)
Postoperative Care
1. Vision recovery can take approximately 1 day to 30 days
2. Do not rub your eyes (you can use the eye mask provided by the clinic when sleeping at night)
3. Do not touch water on the day after surgery (we brought our own diving mask and insisted on washing our hair.)
4. Try not to drink alcohol, spicy food, etc., to avoid inflammation
5. Steroid and antibiotic eye drops, drip every two hours on the same day, with an interval of more than two minutes, starting the next day, change to morning, noon, evening, before bed, and drip for a week.
6. Apply artificial tears as needed to keep your eyes moist (We usually apply them every 10 minutes when we are out and about, it's crazy.)
Postoperative feedback
The clinic environment is excellent, the process is very smooth, sometimes it's so fast that the Chinese hasn't been translated yet, but the examination is already done. I was very nervous when I first entered the operating table, but the procedure was very fast. After the surgery, my eyes felt foggy and stinging, with a sense of foreign body. However, as soon as I used artificial tears, I could see more clearly immediately, and the foreign body sensation would significantly decrease in about five to six hours. The next day, my vision had almost recovered. I measured my vision: left eye 0.8/right eye 1.0. The left eye, being more nearsighted, recovered a bit slower, but overall it feels really good. I do regret not doing it sooner!
