While many of us are familiar with the highly photogenic Starfield Library at COEX, there's a hidden gem that you might not have uncovered yet within the complex — the COEX Aquarium.
It's an attraction that promises a day filled with awe-inspiring aquatic wonders, not to be missed by families and solo travelers alike.
Step away from the bustling corridors of the Starfield Library and the countless shops, and take a breather by immersing yourself in a world teeming with marine life at the COEX Aquarium — home to over 40,000 sea creatures representing 650 different species.
Did you know that among them are some seriously adorable prairie dogs and beavers?

What to See and Do
Throughout the day, visitors are treated to captivating feeding sessions for various animals, from playful penguins to graceful otters and even the mysterious electric eel.

These feeding sessions, typically occurring in the afternoon from 1:20 PM to 4:00 PM for about 10 minutes, offer a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of these otherwise elusive creatures.
If you’re lucky, there are even mermaid performances to catch, though I regrettably missed them as I only went down in the evening.

My personal highlights were the Ocean Kingdom and the Penguin Zone. The Ocean Kingdom, holding an impressive 1,050 tons of water, is home to majestic marine giants such as sharks, rays, and turtles.
Here, you can get up close to these magnificent creatures and even walk beneath their bellies in the Deep Sea Tunnel — an experience like no other. I was amazed at the scale of the sharks compared to the other sea creatures!

In the Penguin Zone, witness the graceful movements of these charming birds as they glide through the water with effortless elegance.
It's a sight that captivates visitors of all ages and leaves a lasting impression, especially for young penguin lovers.

Pro-tips
For those with shopping bags, consider renting a locker at the entrance for just 1,000 won. This convenient service allows you to explore the aquarium unencumbered, ensuring a more enjoyable experience — honestly money well spent for me, after a whole day of walking around with a heavy bag and aching shoulders.
Keep in mind that the last entry is at 7:00 PM, with the aquarium closing at 8:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly to make the most of your time exploring this aquatic wonderland.
Whether you're traveling with children or seeking refuge on a windy and rainy day, the COEX Aquarium is a must-visit destination.

After immersing yourself in the mesmerizing world beneath the waves, don't forget to capture a souvenir photo with your friends and family at the Photoism Colored Photo Booth just across from the entrance — a fun memento of your adventure under the sea.
