Discovering Changdeokgung Beyond Its Beauty
Walking through Changdeokgung Palace in the quiet of the morning, surrounded by lush greenery, was a beautiful experience in itself. But what made the visit truly memorable was discovering the stories behind the palace. That was my biggest takeaway from ✨Creatrip Only✨ 2026 Fall K-Royal Culture Festival: Awakening the Morning Palace, a program exclusively for international visitors.

Throughout the tour, our guide brought the palace’s architecture to life by explaining the thought and meaning behind its many features. From the structures themselves to the intricate designs on their roofs, I learned that elements I might otherwise have overlooked often had a story to tell. What initially caught my eye as beautiful architecture took on a deeper significance as I began to understand the ideas and values reflected in its design.
Personally, one of the most memorable parts of the tour was learning how Uihap-ru, a space in the Secret Garden, reflected the king’s thoughtfulness and consideration for his people.

What I valued most about the program was the opportunity to learn about Korean history while standing in the very place where it unfolded. Reading about the past is one thing; hearing its stories explained on-site makes history feel much more immediate. Rather than simply admiring the palace, I found myself looking beyond its beauty and gaining a new perspective on the place and its history.

The early-morning timing made the visit even more special. With fewer visitors around, the palace felt wonderfully serene, giving us time to take in the scenery without feeling rushed. The Secret Garden was a particular highlight. Its lush greenery and tranquil atmosphere were lovely to experience in person, and the guide’s commentary added another layer of appreciation to the visit.

I also want to give the staff a special shout-out. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating. They took photos for participants throughout the tour, making sure we had plenty of memories to take home rather than just a quick snapshot. If you’re visiting on your own, this thoughtful gesture makes a real difference. It was a small touch, but one that made me feel especially well looked after.
Overall, Awakening the Morning Palace offered more than a peaceful morning walk through a historic landmark. It gave me the chance to slow down, appreciate the palace from a different perspective, and connect with Korea’s cultural heritage in a more personal way. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in Korean history, traditional architecture, or discovering a quieter side of Seoul. I arrived ready to admire Changdeokgung’s beauty; I left with a deeper appreciation for the history and values behind it.
