Exploring Gyeongbokgung in hanbok

One of the things I really wanted to do during my Korea trip was to wear a hanbok and visit Gyeongbokgung Palace. I have seen so many pictures of people wearing hanbok around the palace, and I always thought it looked really pretty. So this time, I decided to finally try it myself!
I booked my hanbok rental through the Creatrip app before my trip. I chose Hanbok Girls and booked the 2-hour rental because I didn’t think I wanted to wear a hanbok for the whole day. I still had other places to visit afterwards, so I thought two hours would be enough for a quick experience and some photos around Gyeongbokgung.

On the day, I went to Hanbok Girls first to get my hanbok. I was actually quite excited because choosing the hanbok was probably one of the most fun parts! There were different colours and designs, and I had a hard time deciding which one to pick. I kept looking at the different styles because I wanted something that looked nice in photos but was also comfortable enough to walk around in.

After choosing my hanbok and getting changed, I was finally ready to go to Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Honestly, the moment I walked out wearing the hanbok, I felt a little funny because I’m obviously not used to wearing traditional Korean clothes. 😂 But after a while, I got used to it. It was actually really fun seeing other people wearing hanbok too, especially when everyone had different colours and styles.
Gyeongbokgung was definitely the perfect place for it. The traditional Korean buildings and palace grounds made such a beautiful background for photos. I ended up taking so many pictures because everywhere I looked, there was another nice spot.
I originally thought I would just take a few photos and walk around, but of course that didn’t happen. 😂 We kept stopping whenever we found a nice background. The palace buildings, gates and courtyards all looked so pretty with the hanbok, and I was really happy with the colour I chose.
One thing I liked about doing this was that it made visiting Gyeongbokgung feel different. If I had just visited normally, I would probably spend some time looking around, taking a few photos and then moving on to the next place. Wearing the hanbok made me slow down a little and actually enjoy the atmosphere.
It was also nice seeing so many people dressed in hanbok around the palace. Some were taking pictures with their friends, some were taking couple photos, and some were just walking around and enjoying the experience. It made the whole place feel even more lively.
Since my rental was only for two hours, I did have to keep an eye on the time. At first, I was worried that two hours might be too short, but actually it was enough for what I wanted to do. We had enough time to choose and wear the hanbok, go to Gyeongbokgung, walk around, take plenty of photos and return it without feeling too rushed.
If you are planning to rent a hanbok for only a few hours like me, I would recommend going straight to the places you really want to take photos at instead of spending too much time walking around without a plan. Gyeongbokgung is quite big, and it is very easy to lose track of time because there are so many things to see.
I also think booking in advance through Creatrip made things easier. I didn’t have to worry about finding a rental shop after arriving in Seoul, and I already had my reservation ready. Since my Korea itinerary was quite packed, having this part planned beforehand was helpful.
For me, the best part was definitely the photos. 😂 I don’t think I have ever taken so many photos in one place! The combination of the hanbok and the palace made everything look so nice, even when we were just standing around taking simple pictures.
I was initially a little unsure whether renting a hanbok was something I really needed to do during my Korea trip, but I’m glad I tried it. It was only a two-hour activity, so it didn’t take up too much of my day, but it became one of the more memorable parts of the trip.
I think the experience is especially nice if this is your first time visiting Gyeongbokgung. You can visit the palace normally, of course, but wearing a hanbok makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Plus, if you love taking pictures during your travels, there are so many opportunities for beautiful photos.
Overall, I’m happy with my decision to book Hanbok Girls through Creatrip. The two-hour rental was enough for my itinerary, and I really enjoyed walking around Gyeongbokgung in a hanbok. It was a simple experience, but definitely one that I’ll remember from my Korea trip.
If I visit Seoul again, I would probably try another hanbok style just for fun. 😂 There are still so many different colours and designs that I didn’t get to try, so maybe next time!
