Korea House: one evening to see a different Korea
When you’re visiting Seoul for the first time, everything seems obvious: Gyeongbokgung Palace, Myeongdong, Namsan, pretty cafes, shopping…
But after ten years of living in Korea, I realized one thing: you can’t get to know Korea through sights alone.
Sometimes, one evening is enough.
There’s one place I’d add to the itinerary for anyone who wants to see Seoul a little more deeply, 한국의집, Korea House.
It’s located almost in the city center, near Chungmuro. But the moment you step inside, it feels like the city noise stays behind the door.
Traditional architecture, wood, calm spaces, the details of Korean interiors… Here, you don’t need to go looking for “Korean vibes.” They’re simply there.
And then the most interesting part begins, dinner.

In Korea, food has long been one of the ways I learn about the country.
So when I look at hanjeongsik, a traditional Korean table with many small dishes, I don’t see just a beautiful presentation.
I see a little map of Korea.
Here you can talk about ingredients, seasons, cooking methods, food preservation, how flavors are paired, and why the Korean table is set up the way it is.
One dish, one small piece of culture.
And that’s exactly why I like bringing someone here who truly wants not just to eat Korean food, but to try to understand it.
Korea House isn’t a place for a quick lunch between palaces.
It’s more the kind of place where you want to dress up, turn off your phone, and set aside a few hours for a calm evening.

Yes, it’s not a cheap restaurant. But I wouldn’t think of it as a place “just to have dinner.”
It’s an experience.
