On this trip to Seoul, I also worked vision correction surgery into my itinerary. The clinic is right in the heart of Gangnam, so as soon as you step out after your appointment, you can start shopping and sightseeing, it was a really special experience combining medical care and travel.
Having eye surgery abroad, the thing I worried about most was language communication. I was afraid I wouldn’t understand the doctor’s explanation or be able to describe how my eyes felt. After the procedure, there is a dedicated post-op recovery room where you can rest for about 30 minutes, easing the stinging and light sensitivity after surgery, then leave once you feel better, such a thoughtful detail. The clinic also gave me a coffee voucher afterward, a small gift that felt really warm and considerate. Overall, the cost was transparent and reasonable, with no hidden add-ons, the price was great.
After the surgery, I rested for one night, and the next day I was able to go out and explore Seoul. Since the clinic is in Gangnam, there are tons of shopping options nearby. Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong and the Apgujeong shopping area are also very close. The streets are packed with beauty stores, designer boutiques, and lots of aesthetic cafes, when you get tired, just pop into a cafe and sit for a while. The subway is also super convenient. On the second day, I went to Hongdae and bought a hat and perfume, haha.
Besides Gangnam itself, getting around by subway is really easy, so I also went to wander around the Hongdae area. You’ll find vintage shops everywhere, “life four cuts” photo booths, and you can often catch street performances. There are lots of Korean-style snacks at the street stalls, plus plenty of trendy brand stores, it’s a great place to browse. I also went to the Han River with friends. Sitting by the river, scrolling on our phones, eating snacks, feeling the breeze and chatting, my mood felt completely refreshed, like I’d forgotten all my worries.
Getting rid of years of nearsightedness while also experiencing the unique vibe of different shopping districts in Seoul, combining medical care with travel made the trip full and genuinely fun.
