From convenience stores to ice cream shops, self-service establishments like those are no foreign concept to anyone living in Korea. But on the corner of a street in Hongdae is a tub., a Korean self-service flower shop.
This was something I had never encountered or heard about before. And upon first glance, you wouldn’t assume it was a flower shop.

When I first saw it I had thought it was an art installation. Its clean and modern aesthetics were different from my traditional view of a flower shop; which I see as a store that’s brightly lit with flowers and bouquets in buckets of water stacked on top of each other. Instead, from the outside was a wall of gray artificial plants, and a glass window peering into the store. Intrigued, I decided to check it out.

Inside transports you even further into their aesthetic. Along the wall is a mirror and the flowers, which gives the illusion of a wall of flowers and secondly, also makes it a great photo spot for pretty mirror selfies.
At the end of the room is a sculpture of sorts imitating an interestingly shaped plant figure. It doesn’t disrupt the space but rather complements it as it adds another piece of nature into the space. And, of course, there are no workers inside the store at all!

On the table where the flowers are located are plaques in both Korean and English explaining the purchasing process. All materials are out for your usage such as bags, hooks, and water tubes. I also like the metal color of the bag, contrasting with the bright colors of the flower and giving them an almost futuristic feel to them as well. The flowers themselves are vibrant in color and very fresh, the store also changes the flowers based on the season.

Payments are made at the kiosk, so remember that they do not accept cash. Prices are also a little higher than normal as they charge 4,000won per flower but if you’re only purchasing one it shouldn’t make that big of a dent in your wallet! And personally I think it’s worth it for the aesthetic ~

I was very impressed with how well tub. laid out a concept and followed through with it. This is definitely the most aesthetic and coolest flower shop I've ever been to.
