✈️ Introduction
- I’d heard for a long time that vision correction surgery in Korea is reasonably priced and the technology is excellent. This year I finally made up my mind to do it. After getting my corneas checked at an ophthalmology clinic in Taiwan and confirming I was eligible for laser vision correction, I decided to head to Korea for the procedure. After comparing several clinics, I chose BVIIT Eye Clinic, the same place my idol Taeyeon also had her procedure.
🔎 Detailed Review
- After arriving at the clinic on the morning of 2026/6/19, the on-site Chinese interpreter, Ms. Ma, was extremely professional and helpful. The examination items were more than double what I’d done in Taiwan. One of them was a genetic test that isn’t available in Taiwan, she explained that if you have a certain gene, there’s a possibility of blindness decades after the laser procedure, so if the result is positive, you can’t undergo surgery. In this part, the Korean side was more careful and cautious. After a series of tests, I learned my corneas are very thick, most people are around 500, but mine were up to 600 (I’m not sure of the unit). She said I could even have laser done twice with no problem, though I think I probably won’t need that XD. Later, between SMILE MONO priced at 2.4 million KRW and the LBV laser surgery I wanted most at 3.2 million KRW, I chose LBV because it handles short, mid, and long focal distances more precisely compared to SMILE. SMILE only covers short and long focal distances, and the middle range may be less clear. The whole procedure took under five minutes. First, they used a LASIK machine to create the corneal cut, then moved to another machine to adjust the subsequent focal settings. At this clinic, only Director Ryu Ik-hee performs LBV procedures. He even canceled his afternoon leave and came back to the clinic specifically to help with my surgery, he was truly professional, and I’m very grateful. Right after the procedure, I put on sunglasses and went shopping before heading back to the hotel. Since the afternoon sun was still strong, the clinic said sunglasses weren’t necessary, but I felt it was better to protect my eyes right after surgery. I also recommend staying somewhere nearby if you’re coming for laser surgery, because after the procedure you really just want to let your eyes rest. Ms. Ma also repeatedly reminded me that dry eye is more likely after LBV, but for me, after about two weeks, I haven’t really felt particularly dry. That said, I’ve never been very prone to dry eye, so it depends on each person, but I did follow the clinic’s instructions and used all the prescribed eye drops (about 80,000 KRW). Still, after laser surgery your eyes really are more sensitive, and you’ll want to go home and rest. So after the follow-up the next day, the doctor said I was recovering well and didn’t need a second follow-up, so I immediately changed my flight back to Taipei. Since I couldn’t drink or have nightlife for a while, staying in Seoul felt a bit boring.

- I booked this laser procedure through Creatrip. Since two people went together, there was a discount plus some basic perks, I found it very convenient compared to booking directly with the clinic. After doing this presbyopia and myopia laser correction, I genuinely feel it was totally worth it and an excellent value. I also happened to go when the TWD exchange rate was stronger against the KRW, so the total cost was about TWD 66,000. Compared to Taiwan, where it would’ve been over TWD 130,000, it was basically half the price. The techniques and equipment were also very good, I really should’ve done it a few years earlier. It honestly feels like a new life, it’s the feeling everyone has when they wake up after getting laser vision correction. One more thing about BVIIT Eye Clinic, their myopia and presbyopia laser procedure is only performed for people born in 1977 or later. Other eye clinics don’t have this restriction, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to make a reservation.
